The Drake Sword is still really good for Blighttown. If you enter through the Valley of Drakes it will be much easier. Also there is a Dragon scale at the bottom of Blighttown you can use to make it stronger. All the other weapons are great swords and they are very slow at swinging

well my friend managed to get through blighttown himself though the normal way, my only issue are the fact that the ghouls can hit me for 50% of my health and they like to attack and groups of three that can take me out faster, and the barbarians keep pushing me off the edge.

and i actually have some swords and katanas that i know could soon be stronger than the drake sword without to much trouble, mainly cause the swords draw C str and C dex off your stats,

also whats the path to the valley of drakes?

If you take the stairs down to the firekeeper for Firelink Shrine there will be another set of stairs that go down to an elevator that heads down into the New Londo Ruins. From the elevator head down till you reach the main area where all the hollows are going crazy (They are no aggro as long as you don't attack) From there you will see some stairs on the right. Take those stairs up and you will come to a gate if you chose the master key as your gift at the character creation screen you can open this door and it will allow you to enter the Valley of Drake (There is also the second enterance to Blighttown here.) If you don't have the Master key then you will have to go through Darkwood Garden to Darkwood Basin keep heading down till you find a Silver Knight. Kill him then continue heading down. Once the path ends you will find a cave in this cave you'll find a Bonfire feel free to light it and rest. Continue heading further into the cave till you find an elevator shaft. If the elevator isn't there pull the lever on the left to summon it. Once the elevator is there ride it down then proceed out once out of the cave you will enter Valley of Drake. Be careful though as the Drakes are very powerful and their thunder breath can do a lot of damage.
