Back (and still recovering) from Furfright
14 years ago
Yeah, I mean, we got back home monday morning... but I had to work that afternoon and each day since, so I am only finally starting to recover now.
I updated my journal footer to reflect my homework from the con. I didn't intend to bring things home, and I did a decent job of realistically limiting what I took over the weekend, but I didn't get to finish everything. Luckily everyone was pretty understanding about it (I do feel bad that people I know personally tend to get lumped into the "I know you, and you're not as likely to kill me if I don't get to do this today" end of the priority spectrum... sorry, guys).
That said, I had a pretty good con! I was sleep-deprived when I arrived, due to last-minute arrangements, packing and acquisition of supplies and such (not to mention going to see Ghostbusters on the big screen the night before we left!) so I was a little cranky when I finally made it to my table. I did my best to focus because I didn't want to waste the entire first day by passing out, and it wasn't too bad. The delirium that occurred later on made for some interesting inspiration when it came to a couple of the sketches I did.
My surprising productivity, and being able to spend a little time with good influences, made it a very positive con. Thank you,
badgerben, for the pep talk and the Batman macro. He sternly watched over us all convention, and shall have a place of honor on my desk, where he will continue to hold me immediately accountable for what I should be doing (although, right now, that would be "sleeping").
I didn't get scans of everything I did, because it turned out that even though I brought my trusty 11 year old laptop, in the flurry of packing, I somehow left the power cord at home, rendering it useless. However, the dealer culture has changed a LOT in the last 9 years, and where I used to be one of the only people at a con with a laptop and scanner, it seems like nearly every other person has at least one or the other or both now.
sirfox,
auradeva,
dingoroo (I think),
red-dog, and
daigo were very kind in sharing their technology. It really made me look forward to getting a new laptop or netbook that much more (it's a reward I've planned to treat myself to once my credit cards are paid off). At any rate, I hope to post those scans as soon as I get a chance to sit still and do that. With any luck, I will be able to coerce the owners of the other pics I finished to email me photos or scans. I am very proud of the work I did! :D
I do want to thank
ozzylotte and
fluffball for putting up with Fossil and I staying in their room. We're generally very respectful of our roommates... but other indirect aspects of having us there can definitely make it overwhelming at times. Plus, we tend to come back to the room just when you've finally gotten cozy and fallen asleep. No amount of quiet will make up for the bright hall lights streaming into a pitch black room at 2 or 3am!
I made a list of things I want to remember to do/get before the next convention I attempt. I look forward to finally being "prepared". Haha! But really, I feel a lot better about it currently than I used to. I want to use whatever is left of the momentum I have to work through my queue and finally feel free to feel better about myself more completely.
Love to all I haven't mentioned that made the con special. It was truly good to get away for a couple days and feel among friends again <3

Did you tell Fossil what he missed?
That was epic Chili.. we thankyou greatly for sharing.
And you dinos were good roomies yourselves.. Twas not a problem.. no matter how much I glared at Fossil and he went on about kittehs killing him in his sleep.
You just reminded me - do you need me to send the photos of that "Merle as a black dragon" badge you did?
I'll get you the picture, I promise, stuff's just been absolutely hectic around here.
And as for the hallway light waking a certain someone from their slumber? It was his own fault for laying in line with the doorway. >D
Hey, if you go to furfright next year, I may return to it!
Fossil needs to say 'gahdammit ZigZag' for old times sake and so on. :)
