Life Update
There's maybe three people who will actually read this. I needed to write something though.
I've been closed off for awhile. Haven't met anybody new or had much fun outside of online games. I can't discount all the fun nights I had in World of Warcraft but it honestly isn't a replacement for a good time outside with friends. It's been a few months since I finally broke the barrier between myself and the world at large and I haven't made leaps and bounds into creating massive social circles but I have improved a lot.
Last night I went out with the person that helped me break that barrier. Despite the fact that we were out with one of his other friends I'd consider it our first real date. It was probably one of the most exciting nights in my life and probably the first time in a decade where I had fun with people who truly considered me a good friend. And we spent it getting the crap scared out of us.
We started with pizza. With garlic sauce. Croatian pizza. It was gorramn delicious. Me and the other friend spend most of it ridiculing my mate over his eating habits and discussing his friends. Did I mention effing garlic sauce? Sweet spirits above.
We arrived at the Queen Mary about an hour early. Early enough for the line to get in to not be too long. Now, a little setup. Me and my mate like period clothing bordering on steampunk. Fedoras, long coats, etc. He had brought his cane too. We stood out a lot. While waiting for the gates to open we started wondering what they would consider a security hazard. Obviously the cane was discussed to the point where we were practically yelling at my mate to put his cane back in the car. After he ran off his friend said, much to the amusement of the crowd around us, "He gives me a headache sometimes.". This story isn't over though. We discover quite a few other items on our persons that weren't allowed into the event and I ended up having to run to the car to put away some pocket knives and belt clips. Making it back just in time to enter the event.
Now there was one of the crew up on a stage above the entrance making scathing remarks to everyone entering. Some good one liners too. We agreed to tip our hats to him as we passed with a "Good evening, sir!". This ended with him remarking "Nice hat, did you get it in the woman's section?" and "Nice outfit, did you lose a bet?". This was the start of a long night of compliments and jokes on how we dressed up.
First maze, Submerged, we managed to get in with no line and no others in sight. It was fricken awesome. The crew handling the maze was able to focus their entire attention on us and by the end of it both my mate and his friend were clinging to me as I took point (Turns out, I'm the bravest of the group). We met a little girl who lost her mother and had a delightful discussion with her before agreeing to help her look. We braved zombies and flooded rooms before stumbling upon a piano room with a young woman at the keyboard. She invited us as dinner and played us a tune. We searched the ship's quarters but couldn't find the little girl's mother. Finally we found ourselves in a misted portion of the ship alight with a ghostly glow. Upon ascending the stairs, we came across another delightful young lady. Unfortunately it was not the little girl's mother. Sadly we left without finding her.
Second maze, Hellfire, not as memorable. There was a catwalk rigged to collapse that distracted me long enough for a zombie to sneak up right into my face. He got me good. I was still point and both my mate and his friend were clinging to me.
Third maze, The Cage, had strobe lights and mirrors. We got lost quite a bit. There was a hallway of hands (I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you! :3). Followed by a corridor where we confronted a creature with a knife switching it between hands with each flash of the light. We had no idea what to do as he was in the way. Finally I decided to move forward with my mate and his friend cowering behind me. The creature moved up to inches from my face and we commenced with epic staredown with them still cowering behind me. I totally won :3
Fourth maze, Containment, was probably the funnest. My mate's friend took point as we ventured into an insane asylum. We saw gruesome patients and got attacked by a guy in a wheelchair. There was another zombie that came at us, stopped in the middle of his scare moment and broke character completely by saying "I like those hats!". Then we met the doctor. My mate's friend asked if he was the chef, "Yes, I'm the chef. In an insane asylum." I asked, in a bad British accent, if he was the Doctor. "Oh so he finally joins the conversation does he? We certainly have some slow company for tonight's show."
Fifth maze, Village of the Damned, was a romp through a period house where we got scared by the ventilation, treated to a nice courtyard walk by zombies and demons, met the meatlocker attendant who sniffed my mate and growled a lot and then got scared shitless by some guy hiding in camo netting by a fence. Inside the next house, we came across the cook and we queried him what was for dinner, but he didn't seem in the mood to entertain. We also met a dapper old chap who discussed politics with us. He requested we vote for him. A vote for him is a vote for not eating our brains. He made quite the argument.
After and between mazes we had drinks and ice cream and met the crewmember who made our night time and time again. We call him Top Hat Zombie Guy. Probably the BEST zombie in the entire area. He had great lines each and every time we saw him, let us take a picture with him before he went casually back to scaring other people and at one point started chasing some guy in a blue shirt to the point where there were at least three other zombies chasing him. "I like it when they run. Love playing with my food."
I haven't had much fun in the past decade. I don't have many friends who I feel actually want to be with me. Last night was amazing and meant more to me than you know. It's a little early to express love, but I do know that I want to be your friend as long as I live. I feel like all I can do is understate this.
Thank you,
