Corrupted Oc Drawing
General
I have on my hands an Open Canvas .WPE File. However when i quit and saved my image it got corrupted. The image data is still intact within the file but OC refuses to open it, stating: "aborted because of dangerous data"
Within I have another picture of a sporty herm, this one playing volleyball and in full color, wearing red rubber, shot from below.
If you think you can open the file and recover the image I will provide a personal request image.
--I'd rather not have to draw it again.--

One thing I learned a while back with the same problem (only in GIMP), is to always make two copies X.X
WPE isn't an image file format, its a stroke recording format that OpenCanvas uses.
I love to help out a fellow artist in need :3
Still, you can try this: take a copy of the file, add a ".gz" file extension to it, and try to use a compression program that supports GunZip (like WinZip) to decompress it. Maybe it's not really truncated. It might just have a messed-up header.
I have a lot of experience with oekaki applets, so maybe I could do something with it. (waccoon@ninechime.com)
PaintChat uses the PCH format for events, regardless of the file extension (they are played by the PCHViewer). There are two versions of the PCH format, one that is GZ compressed with the header "6B 00"h, and one with no header, key/value initializers, followed by raw GZ data. When the data is decompressed, events use two words each. It's pretty simple, though the lack of proper headers makes identifying the data difficult.
The WPE file is similar in structure, but not compressed at all. However, several other OC event files have the header "00 02 58 02"h, and Mif Maf's file doesn't match. So, either this file was made with an unusual version of the program, or the file really is corrupt. I downloaded OpenCanvas v4 to create some control files, but it apparently doesn't save the WPE format, anymore. It uses a newer OE4 format, which has a different header followed by compressed data. The company doesn't offer older versions of OC for download, so I don't think there's much more I can do.

The WPE format that oC uses seems to be spefic for oC. :/
If people manage to recover it, don't be surprised if the picture might look half-broken. But I suppose that's preferable over starting from scratch.
what i've learned to do is make periodic saves, incriminting the filename so that i dont' save over the previous save. so my files look like this:
2006-08-17a_(picture subject).wpe
this way, worst case scenario, i only have to go back a step or few instead of losing the whole picture and ALL of my work.
But yeah I've learned my lesson, periodic saves all the way. Never again will i save when i exit.
another note i should make is that you can always use the Show-> Quick Save as BMP option just before closing as well.
it's not going to have all the layers, nor will it have the line-history that the wpe event file will have, but it will at least be a snapshot of the picture where you left it. just click the Show menue, and choose the bottom option for that. :)
My only other suggestion is to try a different version of OC to open it. The more different, the better. (OpenCanvas3 or oC b68 maybe)
I've no idea how to recover it though ;-;
