So, after a month of pure night shifts, I am off nightshifts...for 3 shifts! YAY!!! NOT. So, my new schedule sucks ass. No weekends off and I get a lot of nights.
Night shifts have finally gotten to me to the point it was obvious. I snapped at a receptionist, and the vet noticed that I was off and basically had to remind me I was doing a good job. However, interruption #5 of my lunch break, and boy was I cranky and pissed off and basically, I think I wanted to kill something. They finally left me alone after that and things cooled down. I was thinking "Yay! Let's end this night decently" That was until the head vet called me to her office.
Basically, it was "Convince the vet to do a TNR" It was 10:45...No biggie...but I really did not want to do a surgery that night...I was tired, pissed off, itchy, and slightly sick. not to mention...I stayed 3 hours OT last rotation doing surgeries. Well, good news, the vet on duty had the same attitude as me. He was just starting off on nights and the poor guy was nervous. So, I continued on my merry little way. That was until 1am when the vet caught me in pharmacy. Looks like the head vet convinced him to do a TNR. We looked at each other as he was telling me this and we both winced. Best line of the night..."I don't want to do this either...please pick a male!"
So, i get everything set up. We catch the cat, we knock the cat out and we check the cat's back end...It was a male! VICTORY!! At that moment, it was like we had won the lottery. Males are faster than females by a long shot and now...I won't have to stay OT! So we do everything in record time and out the door I go!
