Computer Crap Galore PLEASE HELP ME! DX>

Well I'm sure not too many people are expecting much from me, but I've recently hit a problem. My Computer wont start up! XP I've been getting more and more in the mood to start working on digital art work again and uploading stuff...and now i have no computer at home....>BP
For those who don't already know, i have an office job and am able to sneak online almost all day. And thats what I'm doing atm. XP
Anyway, i wanted to know for those of you who may be able to help, what exactly is going on with the computer in case any one knows any solutions! XP
Basically when i turn on the computer, i see 3 screens. the first shows that the computer is loading computery stuff, then it goes to another screen with fewer things on it.(Both these seem normal) However at the third screen, normally it shows the Windows Xp start up screen loading, However mine just goes all black with a white small flashing bar/cursor and stays that way FOREVER!!!!
I've tried looking into why it does this, but i'm not sure what it exactly means or how my computer got this way from being completely normal! DX As far as I've gathered i heard this screen usually means that the computer has problems with Booting up or something like that.
What i need to know from YOU, is if you've ever gone through this and were able to fix the computer with out reformatting it or getting it fixed by anyone else! I don't have much money right now to take it to get fixed until next friday if even since i have tons of stuff to pay for! DX And i can't figure it out myself. I also don't have a Windows Xp Disk to completely re-do the computer either or use the recovery thing with it, since my computer was a refurbished computer from the office! XP
IF anyone can help me get my computer fixed i will draw you like the Greatest damn picture of ANYTHING you want with full details and all that stuff, cause i need my computer for more than just art, i also have video projects that i need to do like the Final 13th Episode of Adventures of Popsicle Pete! DX
Please someone be able to help me, I'd be so damn happy....XP

So i don't think its the ram itself. As far as the Mother board goes, i heard it Could possibly be that, but i have no idea how to check it. XP I did notice however a small little cord plugged into the M.B. and was not connected on the other end to anything. Problem is i don't know how to find out what that is, if it needs to be connected to anything else, or if thats even the problem! DX
Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll have to either keep looking into it, or just take it in next week! XP
You may wanna wait for a professional to work on the comp.
I think by early next year I'm gonna save up for a Brand new computer and upgrade to Windows 7! =P
I'm super used to Xp but i should probably keep up with the times! XP
I don't know what caused it to get this way but it seems that taking it to a shop is the only real option i have at this point. =P
