The only real things to tell someone for how to RP is "be descriptive. don't write a novel but don't content yourself with a handful of words or repeat things too much".

I..don't even use a picture of my face on skype. Usually I place a picture of whatever character I'm using at the time, and don't run more than 1 RP at a tile. <.< lol.

When I did RP, it was fun and I always went for details. To me, gotta' make it seem real, otherwise why do it?

I've a few techniques that can help aid one in writing interesting good RP. Sometimes when you meet people that have a hard time putting their imagination , i like to give them a bit of advice and its helped help bring people out of their RP shell and be much happier with themselves when they do it :3.

First off don't be a jerk if someones not so great at it. be encouraging and suggest the following.

Follow a cadence. For example. you go back n forth typing a few sentences to each other to get the RP flowing. be casual at first.

To help envision the RP you wish to right. close your eyes and type with your eyes closed on the keyboard. Imagine the scene you and your partner are partaking in. Write what you see happening over a short time. Not to much time. no one likes to rush ;) For example one might RP out just a few motions in detail instead of many motions that cover time quickly without much detail put into the motions. Experiment with drilling down into the detail of a motion and doing large motions in your RP. Think of it as typing out an animation as it plays out.

As you RP back n forth your minds eye will have to start where the last person left off. its good to try to read what your partner has written to you and envision it. feel it in your minds eye then from where your partner left off. continue the RP for a bit then stop. Incredibly well paced hot RP can come from this >.>

It of coarse helps if you and your RP partner have similar kinks and tastes. Giving your partner a courteous AFK is always a nice thing when you need to go. Be Casual with it and open with your partner and things can work great.

Quality is always better than Quantity when it comes to RP partners, the fewer you have the more you can focus and build a relationship with close friends.

Well, I never was a jerk in particular to anyone. I just posted a rant journal.

But when someone cant describe their character, or even decide on a gender, its hopeless.

I dont like to have to do all the creating. I hate it when someone lays there quietly like a board in the real world....

And all my regulars seem either too bored with me, or too busy to send a couple notes each day. I dont mind if one scene lasts a month, but it bugs me to wait a week for each move.

At that point its more like a post office than a game of chess. Its boring for everyone involved....

well if your ever board i would be interested in at least saying hi to ya and getting to know ya a bit. see where it goes from there. sounds like you need a breath of fresh air.

But sometimes its obvious that people have never had sex, and know very little about it.

What would you consider a good RPer to be?

Someone with imagination, and at least a basic understanding of sex and the English language.

Eh, well what are gonna do? Some people are just nervous or need to keep both hands on the keyboard when RP'ing...
