You have to brave up a little.
Think about how many obscenely simple problems there are that the majority of mankind have yet to reconcile with. It's clear to see that culture and civility are still in their infancy, and on those gifted with the ability to see past the conditioning of their youth falls the responsibility to be a guide and example.
It doesn't mean that you have to take an active role, but it means you need to be a little more thick skinned.
Does the author genuinely believe that homosexuality is in nurture? It's possible. But what is the overarching purpose of the book? Betterment of mankind through information, or to make money? I feel the answer is obvious.
Billions of poisonous sentiments are perpetuated day after day, humans aren't very intelligent creatures.

What hurts me is that my mother, regardless of how much I have talked to her, the relationship that we had, still obviously thinks that I am gay because of how I was raised, or some experience I had. She refuses to accept that it is not something that I did not choose. And I have read the points from books like these. They are almost always based on non-science, and the authors personal observations,and of course a few choice Bible verses. they seem to me nothing more than a way for people who already believe one way to confirm that they are right. That they aren't being bigots, or intolerant, but that they are just seeing the truth.

You take it too personally.
My Mother is frequently looking to blame herself for the way that I turned out. She feels guilty for who I am, and it's insulting certainly, but I have to look past that. There may be no real problem, but she feels she's done wrong by me, she loves me, and she wanted better for me.
This is moreso about psychological problems than being gay, but you can see the correlation.
If it weren't one thing, it might have been another.

I know, but that is another part of me, and probably a discussion for another time. I take everything very personally, unless it is a joke. (I do understand sarcasm) But if hurts a lot more from the people you love.

I think I should write a book called " It's My Dick Not Yours, A Personal Guide to telling others about how you own your own Dick.

This after some 'elder' from her church visited her. I think she thinks that my brother might be 'becoming' gay. (lol, if only she knew) But like I said, that she still holds onto this idea that I chose to be gay, or that I am because of how I was raised, just hurts me.

The funny thing is something similar happened to me.I told some of my friends and they began saying gay jokes.I just ignored it and started saying that regardless I'm still fine because I started mocking them by joking that I did indeed choose to be gay.Afterwards they shut up.

I had to come out as gay, I think some people should have to come out as ignorant bigots. They are the real people with the problems.
