Oh Paramount... Why, oh why must you pick on the poor Miranda Class starships?
Did Khan in the hijacked USS Reliant lay a curse upon the whole design class?
In every starship battle, the Miranda's are always the ones who most suffer.
Excelsior Class also gets bruised and beaten, with breached hulls and damaged nacelles.
The Galaxy Class seldom gets scratched.
But the poor, still-reliable-even-in-the-24th-century Miranda Class is the punching bag of every enemy fleet...
I call foul!

P.S. Guess my favorite starship class.

Truth be told, though I love the interiors of Voyager (some of the best in all of Trek, in my opinion), I'm actually not that fond of the Intrepid Class exterior.
Of course, also in my opinion, the ugliest Enterprise so far is the NX-01, which itself is a ripoff of the DS9 Akira Class.

I love the Excelsior Class ^-^
It's the USS Nandorian, helmed by Captain "Agro" Antirrhopus.

500 lives and two beautiful starships turned into floating debris...
I know that they are classed as "Light Cruisers", but dang...

I have the Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, and my battle strategy is to send the little, expendable ships into close combat, while my big ships stand back and fire their whole array of torpedoes at the enemy.
Mirandas are actualy classed as "Light Cruisers" and used primarity as escorts and "frigates".
So apperantly your method is simaler to what Starfleet itself does - let them soak up fire while the "heavies" destroy the majority of targets.
As far as millitary planning, it may be a sound strategy, but I can't help but feel like lives and ships are being wasted.

...if I can work up the courage...

Not my favorite ship, but she's certainly a benefit to the service and all of Starfleet.
