Try uninstalling all junky applications first. All browser toolbars and extensions. Remove Norton. Install CCleaner and do a complete system and registry cleanup. Reboot computer. Run TrendMicro HouseCall antivirus (browser-based antivirus), a full scan. Remove any threats found and reboot computer again. If the problem continues, it may be a hardware-related issue. Run a memory test like memtest86+ to check your RAM modules for defects.

no, I mean just those annoying browser toolbars. They slower your browser and eat a lot of memory, and some also steal information. Things like "Google/Yahoo/Bing/Ask! Toolbar" or those adware programs like those free PC tuning software and free cursors/emoticons/wallpapers/screensavers software.

Ohh, I don't think I have any on my computer, since I use chrome, But I'll check all my browsers and do so :<

I agree with Mark. Get rid of any programs you don't use. I mostly use AVG (Though might switch over to Avast) and use Malware Bytes along with Spybot: search and destroy so if you don't have those, give them a shot.

I prefer Avast and Spybot: S&D
Never had any problems with those two alone.

I like to keep more than one anti-virus xD. Never heard to have extra just in case one misses something. I love Spybot to death.

Currently running Avast and AVG at the same time. Freaked out and thought there was a virus that got through cause my comp was STUPID slow. Turns out I forgot I was doing a 7-pass erase on all the empty space in my two HDDs XD

If more advance,try going to safe mod and let Vista repair you system in the Control Panel.(Mostly Win7 has it.)

strange, because Pentium IV was one of the latest processors back in XP age, specially the HT version, which is basically one of the fist dual-threaded CPUs. It should run XP perfectly. But I was saying that Windows Defender wasn't a good anti-spyware software. Luckily, they improved a lot on Security Essentials, which is a good anti-virus software.

Maybe because of the hardrive. If you reformat a couple of times,the disc in the drive will start to stop working. If thats not the problem,then is your CPU too hot or the GPU is at unstable clock.

Oh,1 more thing. Whats your RAM? If 256MB or 512MB could be the problem also.

uninstall any add ons and make sure your updated to the latest version of your browser. go to windows update and update anything that needs to be. there's probably something wrong with your registry or it's fragmented. Run norton to clean out your registry, or a similar program. Now defrag your hd by usin disk defragmenter. This SHOULD work, cause problems like this only come from registry probs or fragments. also uninstall any probram your not usin that much, and try not to have too many start up upon your login.

If all else fails, back up your data and create a new user acount. Move the data into that one, and delete the old one.

Hmmm..... Check task manager? Right click task bar > Task Manager How much CPU and Ram is it using? If the CPU spikes about and you have an exesive ammount of ram usage.... Try to track down the process in the "Processes" tab.... Scroll down the (Probably huge) list of processes, right besides their name they will tell you how much CPU and ram they're using.

What's the process name? And then I shall be able to help.
