Yes, if you're making something for the porn industry.

I tried to get into the Heat magazine once. My stories, which everyone seemed to like so much, were pretty much pulled apart as crap by them, making me feel disinterested in writing more. I had mostly done those stories for the fun of it and to keep my mind and imagination limber... someone suggested I try to get them published, and I think the crits were "It's too unreal." (furries are unreal, so I kinda thought that was a given); "There's too much porn and not enough story." (it was a porn story for furries [who live and breathe porn] that was being submitted to a porn magazine) and one other crit I forget.

Long story short, it's kind of confusing what magazines want from writers. You just have to keep trying and see what works. I do NOT believe half of what I read in that journal. If magazine editors are only looking to see stories that fit their own interests and imagined quality level, then it's less a case of "write a good story" as it is "kiss the editors ass"... something I'm horrible at. To me, sex stories are about sex, sometimes about fun, and sometimes about stories that involve sex and fun if they're any good. When it's furry based, a healthy dose of imagination is also a requirement. Anything else is just... not right.

You let them stop you from writing entirely?

It wasn't so much just that, as a lot of things all at once stopping me from writing.

But at the time, I had been having sincere fun writing. I had also liked my end results, and though I knew it was just simple porn, I liked what I had been doing. I admit that suddenly having my work torn to shreds along with everything else that was going on kinda killed the drive to keep going.

To me, writing had no real purpose other than self expression, fun and passing the time. As soon as the fun went out of it, it fell behind, and as more and more other problems arose, I was never able to get back to it.

That sucks, man.

If I'm lucky, I might get back to it... if things ever settle down.
