Well I see just about everyone has been doing a review of this game, so I'll do it as well.
Now to start off, I've finished this game already, and I got it yesterday, so I finished the game in a day, but the replay value is huge. The game is outstanding with it's 3D rendered version of the 16 bit era, and interesting seeing how the levels are played out in the Modern Sonic fashion. This game is pure nostalgia, there's no other way of saying it, every level is a trip down memory lane, and it's cemented when you watch the credits for the game, because you truly see how everything has evolved up to this part. The great thing about this game is that it's not rushed, it doesn't feel rushed and gameplay wise it's solid, no more fighting the camera, no unnecessary gimic (apart from 1 or 2 levels).
The cutscenes are well done as well, the new cast is nice to listen to and the interactions between characters has some pretty funny moments. The game also gives you one of the best things, which fans have been asking for for years. With this game it brings the best the Sonic games have, and amazingly it manages to keep that pain in the ass fuck you in the crisis city level. Playing this game makes me want to reconnect my Wii and then chuck in some of my gamecube games so I can replay the originals and just see how it's truly changed.
In short, Sonic Generations is FUCKING AWESOME and is a great game, I finished the story in a day but I've still got plenty of quests to go, so replay value.

I'll say this: for me it's better than the recent games, but that's not saying a lot...it still highly lacks the fluid gameplay and controls of the Adventure 2 game, that I can say as a "global point"...if I have to say something from a personal point of view - remove the 2D and 2D+3D and leave just 2D and 3D...mixing both view points in the same stage kind'a ruins it for me.
