RANT Fur Meets at the 99
I'm going to make this short and to the point.
When you attend any type of local fur meet at a family-friendly restaurant, REMEMBER that its in a family-friendly restaurant.
I don't CARE that its a fucking furry meet. I get that. But also remember that its being held in a restaurant that is nice enough to host us. So please ACT like any SANE person would when in a restaurant.
This means that talking about adult material isn't okay.
This means that playing music or videos on your phone at max volume is not okay.
EDIT: Also, who was the jackass with the external speaker? I'm -glad- that thing didn't have power.
This means that standing in the aisles like retards after the staff asked everyone to sit and stay seated WELL before they even began to take orders is NOT OKAY.
EDIT: For those attending who didn't pay attention/care, our waitress asked thrice (that I could hear) for people to sit down at different times during the meet. Nobody listened.
This means flash photography while other people are trying to eat their food is NOT okay. (Seriously. Nobody likes a flash going off over 20 times during the course of their meal. Also, I didn't give ANYONE permission to take my fucking photo. Im honestly pissed off that it was taken more times then I care to count today. NOT OKAY.)
Having fun in a civilized manner is GREAT. But the piss-poor display put on earlier today at the 99 for the 99 Fur Meet was anything but great. I'd honestly be surprised if the management asked us not to return after this month.
Sure, we may bring them added revenue due to a large party. But if its at the cost of running other paying customers away, then they won't want us.
I'm going to end this by saying I don't plan on attending any more of the local meets until this changes.
It wasn't everyone, obviously. But if you take any offense to what I've said in this journal then you're probably one of the people who need to consider how you act in public. You give the rest of us a bad name.

I don't like "stealing" quotes but 2 Gryphon said it just as I would: A lot of furries are awesome, kind, creative, intelligent people, but a LOT have the social skills of a Quadrapelegic Brick.
Was Jess doing anything to curb this? I would point it out to her honestly that you feel this way. She might try to keep things more under control.
Long answer: I didn't pay complete attention to her during the entire thing. But she seemed to be enjoying herself and I didn't feel like starting drama at the meet. I honestly just wanted to leave shortly after getting there. Things did quiet down when the food arrives (because people returned to their seats) but after that it was completely nuts.
I have felt pretty much every one of these things before at these or other meets. There are always going to be people who just don't get it. It's one of the reasons that I don't go to the meets as often as I used to. I can't remember the last time I went to a public, open-invite meet and didn't think to myself at least once, "What am I doing here with these people" lol.
I applaud your speaking up about it but I have little to no hope that it will do any good (at least not for more than maybe one meeting). It's cool that furry = freedom to a lot of people, but some of us forget that just because we don't always quite feel like we fit into mainstream society, doesn't mean we get a free pass to act however we want to.
And the entire purpose of this journal isn't really to cause drama, though Im assuming it will. I just want people to realize that they ARE in a public setting at an establishment that LETS us be there. 99 doesn't have to let a group of 30+ attend or put up with us. They're nice enough to do it. We should show them the same respect they show us.
To give you an idea of how bad it was. There was about a 5 booth buffer between us and another other group. And then the booths were practically full up. They'd crammed people as far away from us as possible so that they could at least attempt to enjoy their meals.
I had to stop going to the local meet because they would meet up in a local BBQ joint with ears/tails/sex shirts on... in Texas. So I fully support you, and hope the ones who ruined it learn a lesson.
A couple other things that I could suggest. First, only associate yourself with the people you actually know and are close to and that you trust...........or at least those that you know enough to not act like a rude retard in front of you (lol XP). If you sit with people who knows very well how to behave themselves and have fun at the same time, it would be much more enjoyable for ya. Second, if you see something that goes out of hand, speak with Jessica about it. Since she's the one that started all these meets and tries to organize things to the best of her abilities, let her know of the things you mentioned and how she should be more stern with the people that are causing too much trouble. If the staff members had an issue with us yesterday, they would have mentioned it to Jess and tell her the things that would need to change if we were to still have these meets. But it would still be good to talk with her anyways just so she could be aware of how others could see things through different perspectives. I'm sorry hat you didn't have as good of a time yesterday and hopefully next month won't be hectic this time.
This is really just me ranting, though. I didn't bring it up at the meet and I don't feel like bringing it to any more public attention then I already have. I'd just rather not attend anymore rather then make a stink out of it.
If it gets any larger or any more wild next time, though, I'd be alarmed if the 99 didn't complain. Did you notice the massive buffer of space between our group and the nearest people who were dinning? Not to mention the rest of the place was crammed full.. they were only putting people on our side when they had too, by the looks of it.
I will say on behalf to the staff, they were able to organize splitting the checks much better than the previous time and it was much easier for the main woman that takes care of us. There were times in the past where the group was so unorganized with regards to the checks, heck a few people forgot a certain thing that they ordered at times, so after having all the checks out and having to redo some of them, it was more of a hassle in the past. Yesterday the group knew exactly not to order anything else after she printed out the checks so in her mind it was probably an improvement in terms of service wise. Though chances are she didn't see or hear some of the things going on, which was most likely a good thing cause I'm pretty sure she would say something if she heard someone talk about furry porn. XP
