Worldcraft: Halloween Winner + Round 8
General
Welcome to Round 8 of Worldcraft!
Before we get started, the winner of our Halloween contest was
forgetfulsinner
There were a few misunderstandings about the contest, here as on DA, so that's why we decided that big chances will come to Worldcraft. More info on that at a later date.
But the chances will be big. Very big.
As before, you will have +/-3 weeks to work on an entry of your choice.
The deadline for this round is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17TH at midnight PST.
1) Artists!
Do you want to join the contest in creating creatures, insects or environments?
Yes? Reply here so we can add you to the list of participants! (no notes)
2) Donators!
If anyone is willing to give the winner a prize (a free sketch or something) please contact us by sending a note.
Your icon will be added to our front page, along with what you will give the winner(s).
If we can’t find anyone willing to donate a prize, we’ll try to find something else to give our winner.
---
RULES
- Have fun! (Very important!)
- You have about three weeks to complete your entry.
- The deadline is December 17th.
- Once you’re ready, send us a NOTE with the link to your entry.
- The title of the note must be ENTRY 08.
- Every submission must be accompanied by a bit of text that describes how your creature lives, eats, etc. (Unless your submission is a story or a landscape, of course).
The description of your creature will also be judged and will count toward the points you receive, so be sure to put some effort into it!
- You may draw as many images as you wish, but you must specify which two you want judged. If you do not, two will be picked at random.
- Contestants can't be judges; it messes with the scoring system.
- You can make a sketch, line art, fully colored drawing with or without background, write a story featuring a creature, make something out of paper-mâché or sculpt something in clay
Anything goes! What you want make is completely up to you.
Although we encourage people to be creative in many different ways, there are some things we won't allow:
- Terrain generators (Terragen, Bryce, DAZ Studio, etc...)
- Pre-made characters (Second Life characters or environments, etc...)
These programs require no artistic skill since it generates everything itself.
It does require the ability to compose a beautiful scene or character, but that's not the point of this contest.
HOWEVER, we do not wish to be completely unfair towards those who like this kind of artwork.
If there is a large enough demand, we will expand our contest to include a separate section for computer generated artwork.
Currently we will not accept these types of entries.
The Planet
[information taken from Wikipedia.com]
Europa or Jupiter II, is the sixth closest moon of the planet Jupiter, and the smallest of its four Galilean satellites, but still one of the largest bodies in the Solar system.
Slightly smaller than Earth's Moon, Europa is primarily made of silicate rock and probably has an iron core. It has a tenuous atmosphere composed primarily of oxygen. Its surface is composed of ice and is one of the smoothest in the Solar System. This surface is striated by cracks and streaks, while craters are relatively infrequent. The apparent youth and smoothness of the surface have led to the hypothesis that a water ocean exists beneath it, which could conceivably serve as an abode for extraterrestrial life. This hypothesis proposes that heat energy from tidal flexing causes the ocean to remain liquid and drives geological activity similar to plate tectonics.
Creatures
- An advanced organism living near the vents, mainly feeding on an existing tubeworm-like species. [entry by Transapient]
- A type of filamentous, scum or lichen-like bacteria with a multitude of classes and functions. [entry by ArgentDandelion]
- Microscopic Leeches able to survive both the freezing cold and scalding heat the subterranean oceans have to offer.
- Parasitic planktons that attach itself to any kind of living organism.
- Small bioluminescent worms that live in hollow rocks and the smallest cracks in the seafloor.
Flora
- A type of plant-like organisms living close to underwater volcanoes, filtering the subterranean lakes.
Landscapes
- The jagged, icy landscapes with it’s host planet, Jupiter looming across the horizon
- A subterranean lake, with rock formations and algae growing on them.
---
When you send us your note, always mention your choice.
e.g.: Vermin2, Creature4, etc…
The deadline for your entries is Tuesday December 17th at midnight PST!
Entries submitted after the deadline will still be hosted in the gallery, but won’t be judged.
HAVE FUN!
