Minecon aftermath

Holy shit. What an epic weekend
For you who weren't following any of my excessive and needless twitter posts, It was quite fun. Me and my high school buddies arrived on Thursday afternoon to get settled and walked the Vegas Strip to kill time. It was very interesting, the casinos were amazing. We stayed at Mandalay bay, where Minecon was held, and quickly took a look at several others. I INSTANTLY fell in love with the Luxor, not simply because of the overall Egyptian theme of the place, but the sheer beauty and amazement that it's architecture possessed. I had no idea the entire pyramid was hollow. We played a few hands of Blackjack within it's casino before calling it a night and heading up to get ourselves registered. In line some interesting things happened, for one the head of the Minecraft news was several places behind me in the line, and my friend was conversing with Potatoe0rgy, the man who made a 1:1 replica of Hogwarts within Minecraft all by himself.
Friday was intense. Roughly 5000 people made it to the convention, and the line to get in was huge. Once we finally got in, it was a sight to behold, a giant Creeper was located in the center of the gallery, and there were quite a few things to do. We mingled a bit, did some "Irl Minecrafting" where you dug in a pit of wooden blocks decorated like actual Minecraft ones in order to get ores and exchange them for tool key chains. Hurt like a bitch with all the corners, and I managed to swipe a few blocks for fun. Eventually it came down to the opening ceremony in which Mojang team was introduced and Notch fired off the launch of the game. Later we caught the Mojang Panel and got a first look at Cobalt and Scrolls, both look very promising. Even later than that I spotted Jeb and a few other Mojang members in the Casino's general store buying booze, flagged them down and we actually got to talk with them face to face about Scrolls for a bit. Amazing people. Amazing game. Finally Saturday was wrapped up with a small party for the entire fan base, at which me and my buddies ended up waiting in line for 2 hours to get the man's autograph. I got to shake his hand, and when I told him face to face he had an awesome game, he didn't seem to know how to respond, despite making a goldmine of a game, he is still just a normal guy.
Saturday started off with meandering around the con for a bit until the Yogs had their panel, which was enjoyable until they dropped a few F-bombs in front of several hundred underage viewers, and later Notch ended up chewing them out. He even uncovered tonight on twitter than the two are egotistical assholes, claiming they should have gotten paid for coming and that Minecraft is popular because of their podcast. I got to play a bit of Scrolls first hand, a very fun and innovative game which I can only describe as "Chess and Magic the gathering getting drunk, having sex in a bathroom stall and Mojang delivering the child". It had a few bugs being int he pre-alpha stage but it's got nothing but promise to show. Things were fun and relaxed until we went to the XS club at the Wynn for the "into the Nether" party, at which Deadmau5 was DJ'ing. It was fun, regular club goers were confused why Minecraft decorations were everywhere, and it was some time before the DJ of honor arrived on the scene and lit the place up, at which time it would be easier to net a spotted owl than get anywhere near the dance floor.
Sunday was for rest and relaxation before our flight, not much to say about it other than a Gameworks run. Seriously I cannot begin to describe all the awesome things that happened in the two days the con went on, so much happened. Anyway I'm back home and happy I got to enjoy such an event, though I'm sure it will be the last one I attend
Also I got some pretty awesome stuff at the con, which I had to show off here:
