I always wanted the model with the built in digital camera, so that in my old age I could look back and laugh at all the people I tasered.

Yeah, they won't issue us those for liability reasons (they're also like 200$ extra a pop), but when we do our training we always video tape it, I have lots of digital movies of myself (3 times) and friends (1 or 2 times) and all my classmates "Under Power". They _NEVER_ GET_ OLD_!!!!

I haven't used it on an assailant yet, I carry the Taser specifically for more "after action" stuff, in my job I routinely arrest groups of 10+ people alone or with one or two partners, the Taser in my hand makes an excellent visual deterrent against attempting to assault us, or to escape custody(both acceptable deployment scenarios), and if someone does jump up and come at me or a coworker, the Taser puts them down fast, in a manner that is visually deterring to their companions trying to do something similarly violent, and also in a manner which is unlikely to cause any injury.

The Taser X26 is not an alternative to lethal force, but it is an alternative to nearly every other level of physical violence, its 15(optimal, max 21) foot range also means it is excellent for officer safety because it allows me to engage someone at range who may for example, have a knife but not be charging me or anyone else with it, without having to kill them or risk my own life.

If I sound like a spokesman for Taser Intl. Its because I am a self appointed one, IMHO, I love that device, it has lead to more satisfactory outcomes for me without me having to ever fire it, where otherwise I would have had to deploy OC, or my baton, or possibly eventually even my firearm, than I can really relate.

As for seeing or hearing it work, yes, whenever they are certifying people there is always a crowd, I've volunteered to go "Under Power" 3 times, once I was shot with it, once we used clips, and the 3rd time was a "daisy chain" where me and some coworkers linked arms and had the clips placed on the belt lines of the two people on the ends, for the record, never do this, it sucks beyond belief.

Its the longest 5 seconds of your life, but I know from experience that when properly deployed, the taser results in 100% compliance for at least 5 seconds because you don't have a choice.

Well I mean ya it puts one on the ground but what about the other 9 while you are tazering one surely the others could rush you, unless you have two or three people who have tazers ready?

Usually there will be one or two tasers on scene each with 2 cartridges, there aren't a lot in my agency due to budgetary concerns, that's changing for now, though in my area the 9th circuit court of appeals is not a big fan of the device.

The people I deal with are primarily uneducated, many are illiterate. So they don't know precisely how tasers work, which is a big pathological advantage, to them it might as well be a death ray, the laser sight tends to solve many problems without the trigger ever being pulled.

We've also got OC spray, batons, sidearms, and rifles if the other 9 jump us, usually there's only one or less idiots willing to incite them to try, putting them down hard tends to end the impulse. Those guys are almost universally your aggravated felons.

must be the natural instinct, no one wants to die, hence if you shooting a gun or other item no one wants to rush ou if your firing at them. Are you stationed in the Cali border?

Arizona, south of Tucson. I think they know the Taser won't kill them, but it sure looks like it hurts when its used.
