Personally, I think majoring in photography is probably not the best use of a major. If it's anything that can be self taught and doesn't NEED a diploma (ie anything where the job hires based on a portfolio), then it's not worth the expense. The better use of time is to learn yourself and spend every other moment building that portfolio to amazing levels.

College, in todays market, should REALLY be reserved for majores that need the diploma: science/engineering, medical, law, and business. That's about it. Anything else is just a lot of debt with almost no return.

The only problem is that some people/companies require a degree in photography to work for them. :( However, some, if not most, don't need one.

Currently in a photo major, one much more towards the arts then I would like but regardless. Its a touch and go, it really depends more on why you want to get the major. If it's just the requirement worry and you don't believe anything would be gained beyond that then I would just focus on improving your portfolio to compensate for the lack of degree and leave it at that.

I have found myself learning somethings, though I wish more, but I have found this place helpful both in class lessons and moreso in terms as an enabler for events for photos and such. Things I didn't know about and wouldn't have without it. I can definitely say I would have been poorer without the college. Learning-wise, not money-wise.
