To be honest, I haven't read your stories yet, but when writing them I find that really the length of the scene depends on the story.

As with all things (because I have been debating these things with the novel) it is entirely up to the effect you want to give... Sometimes I want a short lived thrill... sometimes I want something long that takes a while... I think the more wrapped up in one another the characters are, the easier it is to read something long between them.

Most writing guides I've read suggest keeping erotic scenes short, vauge, and with a focus on emotions rather than body parts or motions. Ultimatly the reader of adult literature already has an understanding of anatomy and the mechanics of sex. Leaving more to the imagination stimulates the reader more than lengthy discription of sex.

That being said, I personaly like reading and writing detailed descriptions of sex. Writing sex into romance is one of the most fun parts tasks there is.

This is personaly where I am conflicted as well. I am currently writing two erotic scenes and have reached a road block in each of them. Part of me wants to write towards the readers imagination while deciphering what is erotic about the act. Another part wants to have fun and be explicit.

I think there are merits to brevity so long as it triggers the imagination. I think this is true for visual artwork as well. The sexiest artwork is suggestive. While hardcore penetration with consumate detail is hot too, you can really show your skill achieving the same ends with the powers of suggestion. Though thats easier said than done.

I think the longer or shorter it is , is irrelevant, personally.

Let me explain.

If you try to express, say, a male climaxing, say, into my favy, another's muzzle, there's two -main- ways to do it. There are others, but, this is mainly what I see.

Option A, and sadly the most common:

The dragon pants, cumming hard into the dragoness' muzzle, purring contently.

Option B, the way -I- prefer to type

The dragons grunts, his nuts drawing up to reward the eager dragoness, then that tip opens in her muzzle, wad after thick, rich wad starts to spill into her mouth. Some of it sticks to the top of her muzzle, while more and more pumps in, threatening to overflow it, unless she swallows the dragon's pride, literally. The fluid coats her tongue as she struggles to keep ahead of the tide, soon able to swallow every drop the male gives her.

That's my opinion If they can type the details of the actual climax well, then, I don't care if it's short or long. With details like that, I'm already cumming before I get to the end of the paragraph.

I think it depends on the story, sometimes you need longer sex scenes, sometimes you can make it short and sweet.

I think stories need sex scenes that fit the flow and function of the story. This means I don't know how the sex will play out until I get there. And I like it that way.

It all depends and varies. You just have to feel it. However if you do a short sex scene you really need to make it mean something and it must have sexual tension built up to it.

I'd say it depends on what the story demands, but longer is usually better in my opinion! (Pun not intended <_<)

They should only be as long or as short as necessary for the story.

I'd say let the story dictate the sex scene. Some call for longer scenes, others shorter. It all depends on what you're conveying and how you're spinning the story around it.

I tend to favour longer scenes in my own writing, but purely because I enjoy the detail of writing about every thrust, every stroke, etc. :D There's most certainly a place for shorter sex scenes though, I'm just not so good at writing them without making 'em seem rushed. :3

The furry fandom would implode if you and I wrote a long sex scene together.

Definitly should depend on the story. While a short quickie in a story mentioning someone on the run or with just a short known contact can be quite a thrill, i would find it rather unfitting, when two lovers would not take the time for each other...

I think short sex scenes are better and it also depends on how the story is. When it came to Cruelty, the sex scenes were short, but it brought out a lot of detail in that short scene. I am guessing the timeing has to be right on the sex scenes too.
