I got my PC back, but I'm having trouble getting SDL to work. SO! Until I fix it, trying to remember what I did right the first time, Game Maker is all I have.
I've kind of been stressed about that lately. A lot of developers regard GM as a kiddie toy, and kind of for good reason. It does simplify a lot of things that pros would have to impliment themselves.
So I want to know, would you guys think any less of me if I kept it? At least for the time being. I fully intend to keep studying C++ and C# to keep my options open, but if I finished Cloud Chasers in GM, would anyone dislike that?

I can't even handle the "kiddie stuff" when it comes to making games.

I think the issue is more a case of ease of use = crap. A perfect example of this is Daz and Poser. Because anyone can download it, install a couple of models off the internet and churn out crap means that it is frowned upon by 3D artists. I've not heard the same negative responce to sketchup, which I'm told simplifies 3D.
There are 2 game maker games that are considered indie darlings. Iji, and Gunpoint. If you expand that to fan favourites there is a Metroid fan game that gets alot of hype. So people are willing to overlook the engine if the game is good. The problem with most Game Maker games (much like RPG maker, mugen, XNA and flash) is that allows idiots to make crap so it's kind of an early warning system. Hell, I'd argue Java games weren't taken seriously until Minecraft came along.
Provided you make it good, no one will care about the engine I think.
