Depends mainly on the size and number of pages, but I'd say something like $0.50 for every full-color page at the most (I have one 50-page color comic at 20 bucks, for example, which is close).

3. It would most certainly depend on how big a difference the color makes in both price & quality.
4. The story shouldn't be crippled to make the content fit a rating. A comic book, at least to me, is selling a periodical story, and using pictures to take out all the details that you would otherwise have to read. Think of how short Jordan's "Wheel of Time" would be if he had pictures to replace his descriptions... So whatever it takes to make the story good.

It is a possible anthology, but it looks like I'm going with full color.

Money issues aside, I haven't had much interest in furry comics for several years now. Not to say that can't change, but most of what I've seen hasn't been all that interesting, or stagnated out of it's worth.


2. The timeframe of months does not daunt me. It could be produced weekly quarterly, or even yearly.

3. That all depends. There is nothing wrong with black and white, as long as the comic is designed for it. And color can usually be added in without much loss. And added value later for the publisher.

5. Again, that depends on the content. Thinking of a comic in terms of dollars is not weighing its worth. How big are these comics you are planning? I have enjoyed TPB's at $20 a pop (Gold Digger, The Sandman, Battle Angel Alita) as well as individual comics from $2-5.

6. I don't know if I understand this journal. Anyone will buy anything for any amount, given they like it enough. Feed us! What is this you are planning? I know you are trying to qualify us here, but I think I would be able to give a much more concrete estimate if I had an idea what I was planning to purchase. And I'm pretty certain, given a small sample of the plot and characters, you would have few problems getting suggestions. ;)

What do you mean by contributing, exactly? What is it you need?

Well, my goal here is a quality product. I also want to try a style experimentation for full color pages, none of this white background stuff. Ideally, the comic would be 28-36 pages, and hopefully have at least two different artists and stories. It would be released every other month or quarterly, and contain stories with potential for continuation, and eventually, a full story compilation once it's run its arc.

But mostly

I want to draw possums and badgers and get paid for it.

Also, having a "fan vote" story in there would also be pretty cool.

Hmm. I dunno. There are many "collected" comics around the fandom, and honestly, it's a crapshoot. Generally I stay away from them. If I like a certain author/artist, I'll look into a specific issue, maybe. But I'd be much more fond of a good dependable story, with maybe an aside or two. $3-4 is strandard now, and I think the most I would pay for a 22 page comic is about $6. And the colouring has to be _good_. I've gotten comics where they've raised the price by a dollar and slapped on some crap colouring and I dropped those pretty quickly.

I guess R. The majority of the comis I read are published by Vertigo... sex, violence and deep thoughts are selling points for me.

Slightly more, like $6 for black and white or maybe as much as $10 for colour if it's square bound rather than staple and more in the 40-50 page range.
Mmm.... small press stuff tends to be slightly on the high end and I think people who read small press comics are used to that, so oddly enough even though the market isn't as big, a slightly higher price than a Marvel/DC comic is okay.

GOOD GODDAMN, people seem willing to pay a lot of money for a comic book here.
I worked at a comic book store for seven years and got yelled at left and right by customers whenenever Marvel jacked their goddamn prices up by 25 cents or so. In my experience, it has to be something _good_ (famous writier, issue one, whatever) or people don't want to pay over $3-4.
I guess the exception being some hyper collectors who buy ever varient cover, but the popularity of things like that comes and goes.
I know people will pay more for _pornography_ and I know small press fans are used to slightly higher prices (we've been paying $3 for black and white back when full colour main stream stuff was more like $2), but eeh, I dunno.
Digest or TPB style stuff is another story, generally starting at $10 and up to $25 or so, unless it's hardbound.

I'm thinking more of a mature story theme with GOOD writing, though. I keep hoping that good writing plus pretty pictures will sell books! It'd be lovely if I could manage to get a 48 pager and get it perfect bound, though. However, at ten bucks a pop for printing, it'd have to be $5-10 over that to make any profit. And hopefully the quality would be good enough that people would really want to buy it! It is less expensive to go with the other service I've found, but they max out at an R rating.

I AM thinking of making a comic, if only to finish something I've kind of already started. It does have somewhat adult themes, and there's nudity, but no blatant porn.

The problem that I've had with group projects lately is that a bunch of people commit, and then I say, "Okay! Here's mine!" and only half the group responds that they've actually done any work. I may just make this a one shot deal with a few self contained stories in it, ideally totaling around 36 pages and selling for $10. I suppose I'd gauge by that if there was enough interest to attempt to make this a regular thing. Well, I'm replying to all the questions together. I own many comic-strip, but it's from the Belgian & French school mostly - and I'm a native French speaker. There are anthro comics in them, like Enwin ( http://www.lambiek.net/artists/a/an.....uke_enwin2.jpg ), ou Le Dernier loup d'Oz ( http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images.....VL._AA240_.jpg ). I prefer when it's plain fantasy rather than comics like Blacksad. If I find other good comics with anthro characters, I'll probably buy it. Same when there are Dragons or Gryphons. I must say I don't mind if it's X-rated, depends on the scenario. Many fantasy comics are R-rated here. (but here we still consider them general... it ain't America).

The price I'd pay for a comics... Depends on the comics. Here, prices are from about 8 € to 25 €, mostly 10-15 €. Black and white or colour? I prefer colour, but again, it depends: there are artists who prefer to draw in BW.

Ah yes, "Chats" (Cats), by Didier Convard, that's awesome, I own them also. If you find somewhere "The Devil's 8 Days" and "The Devil's 9th Day", they're worth buying them: there are the first versions of "Cats" included in it, along with other legends and fantasy stories. There's also "Cranach de Morganloup". Convard is a very good French artist.

- That's a tough one, the most important thing is the story. As long as the story is immersive then I don't mind which. Bare in mind that certain topical content forces a comic to be labled higher than it actually presents itself. For instance, Circles and ASB are both rated adult yet only ASB contains graphic content [sexual organs and sexual intercourse,] Circles is rated for adults only for the soul fact that it deals with homosexuality.

- That would again depend on its quality, the detail of the art and the materials used for printing. It would also depend on whether or not it was in a comic form, graphic novel form [A4,] Manga form [A5] or hardback form. As well as the number of pages contained in each issue. I'm afraid I couldn't put a price on this as I believe that the comic industry greatly undervalues itself $5 for 32 pages of art is ridiculously low for even a black and white comic with not backgrounds and printed on printer paper. I could tell you what I've paid for each of the types of comics I've listed here but that's it.
