He's Kirking. (Like a certain Starfleet officer, he decided that he'd rather be in the field again instead of at the desk.) It doesn't look like he's leaving the business at all, it looks like he's intentionally demoting himself so he can do more of the development work he enjoys instead of just directing the process. It's rough at the top, and it's a little more fun to leave your fingerprints on the work.

Also, to avert what potentially could happen to Apple, he wants to be able to find a proper successor and let other, younger development staff take over the spotlight.

*nods* RIght and this remains me of what happen to Sega, a lot of people made it to the top but weren't able to work on the games when want and enjoyed doing, thus ended up leaving one by one.

I don't think Nintendo is going away any time soon, and this is probably better for the company. (I'm interested in seeing what direction his successors will take.)
