Rick Perry is an asshat.
I think it's pretty easy to realize that there's something wrong in this country when people like Rick Perry are running as presidential candidates. -__- I can name about a dozen things wrong with this video, with the biggest one being that it was ever created in the first place. A few things I want to mention...
"Gays can serve openly in the military" -- and that's a bad thing? I've never understood why people are against it. I had a conversation with my dad about it earlier this year (who has no idea that I'm gay btw), and his reasoning was, "Well if I'm in the military and I'm lying in a ditch getting shot at, the last thing I want to be thinking is that the guy next to me wants to have sex with me." Let me tell you something: If you're lying in a ditch getting shot at and that's all you can think about, you have BIGGER PROBLEMS than the guy next to you. Whether he's gay or not, the guy next to you is voluntarily risking his life to protect our country; he's fighting for the same cause as everyone else, and I really don't see why anyone should be denied such a service because of their sexual orientation. I swear, it's like Republicans think gay men will rape them in their sleep. >__> My dad also has similar views about women being in the military, and it really makes me want to break his face with a sledgehammer.
"Our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas" -- when did that happen? Last I checked, stores were displaying racks of Christmas merchandise before HALLOWEEN. Unless he's referring to the fact that kids aren't able to deck their classroom out in wreaths and garland because it's a "religious" holiday. Here's some news: There are other religions besides Christianity! :0 Some kids don't celebrate Christmas, which is why it's unfair for Christians to think their holiday takes precendence because it's the most widely celebrated. Not to mention that Christmas technically isn't even a religious holiday; it was originally a Pagan festival, and Jesus' birth likely occured months before December 25th. Leave it to Christians to get the birthday of their savior wrong.
"Kids can't pray in school" -- are you really that daft, Rick Perry? Of course kids can pray in school. It's perfectly acceptable for a student to engage in prayer by themself, or even with other students if they all wish to. What's unacceptable, however, school-mandated prayers or other religious acts that are implemented by the school's faculty... which brings me back to my point that there are other religions than Christianity. Why would the schools show preference toward Christians and lead students in daily prayers? I don't pray, and I certainly wouldn't want my school telling me that I should. The schools would be discriminating against other religions by failing to observe their practices and favoring Christianity. This is exactly why we have a little thing called "separation of church and state" -- and guess what? Education is a product of the state. Therefore, bringing any aspect of religion into the public schools shouldn't even be a topic of discussion. If students want to pray at school, it should be their responsibility to do so on their own time.
"I'll end Obama's war on religion" -- so now Obama's waging war against religion, just because he doesn't advocate Perry's traditional Christian values? I haven't seen any evidence that shows Obama is discriminating against any religion; I think he's done pretty well in promoting equality, which is my best guess as to why Rick Perry has been bashing him. Obama doesn't favor Christianity. He doesn't favor white people, or rich people, or straight people. I fail to see how that can be anything but positive. What this ad really says is, "BAWWWWW my 'traditional' values are better than yours, and my religion deserves preferential treatment."
The Republican party should be ashamed to have candidates like this representing them. :/ I'm not even much of an Obama fan, but at this point, I'd vote for him simply to prevent one of the Republican candidates from making it into office.

Also, I'm against politics, so no surprises from me.
Both parties are full of crooked nails more bent than the last.
Having a two-party system needs to go. That and a 100% wipe of the Senate floor.
We really should've listened to George Washington. Our first president tells us to do away with the two-party system, and our response is pretty much: "LOL NOPE! I disagree with the other party too much to compromise!"

[x] Fuck this shit.
From what I understand, the majority of wars (out of all history) have been because of this. Religion. Because Obama doesn't endorse religion, THEIRS (his: Rick Perry's religion and the people who share it and feel similar), makes him a villain? Or something?
What. The. Fuck.
I agree with everything you have just said btw.
And it's too late to be worrying about this crap. xD
I actually think religion is good sometimes because it (usually) instills positive virtues in its followers... until other religions come into play, and then you have thousands of people spilling blood over something that's not even worth it. If religion was only about the positive practices (like charity, being kind to others, etc.) and all the God-worshipping aspects that get everyone butthurt simply disappeared, the world would be a better place. No more wars over who prays to the right deities, no more controversy because one religion's beliefs are favored over another's. That's why I think Buddhism is a better religion than most others (despite being an Atheist myself), because it focuses on positive ways to live one's life and avoids unnecessary conflict.
I see your point but at the same time I feel as though people shouldn't need someone/ something (i.e. religious text) to tell them how to act. I guess it's above people to be decent people to one another, if that makes sense. So combing full circle (of your point and talking to myself a little xD ), yeah religion can be a good think. If done in the right way.
Asshats, asshats, asshats all of them! D:<

was talking with my mom a few days ago and she tried to give me that old tired bullshit about how being gay is "unnatural" so i informed her of just how natural it is. after telling her how rampant homosexuality is in the animal kingdom she goes "well i just don't agree with it." i just had to shake my head. I love how being gay was perfectly normal and socialy acceptable until the Abrahamic faiths became the big movers and shakers in the world.
I've yet to actually get a chance to argue with a whole lot of those "bible-thumping, divine-right-of-our government" types, but I've morbidly awaited running into one of them! The only people that've come close to that description were kids that were going to, or had already joined the Marines, and ... frankly, looked like it. I like to think I'm no pushover, so in order to keep this illusion, I decided -not- to piss off the hard core military kids. But, hey - if you're gonna disprove people like that, doing it with Rousseau and Locke's the way to go! I'm sure the looks on your fellow students' faces were more than just rewards for all the time put into that paper.
We were so close to dethroning him in 2010...
DX
I'm voting for the guy who wants to legalize pot. :D I forgot his name, but I'll find out eventually.
On shows like South Park and Family Guy, it's different because they're just making fun of things. This guy seriously thinks it's wrong for gay people to be in the military. That's fucked up in this day and age. Only crazy Christians and other ass-heads will vote for that guy after what he said.
Also, lolwhat @ Obama war on religion? He just made a speech the other day that was religiously favourable...which actually lowered my view of him a little bit, but eh.
I wish there was a war on religion (in the sense of organizational names). Our species needs to evolve beyond religion. Spirituality is great, as long as it's your own and you concede that there's a chance it has no impact whatsoever on reality save for how you think about it. Religion is an excuse to have power through organization.
