Iguanas can be got in Mexico, practically a stone's throw from where I live. Sometimes you can have them cooked on a skewer. Yeah, lizard on a stick. But they are wild all over Baja California and the borderlands.

Petland and other pet shops will sell them, but I'd highly recommend checking with a reptile/Iguana fan site if you become more serious about ownership, for they'll have more reasons why pet shops are terrible outlets (at least for farmed creatures like rabbits, and I reckon cats and dogs).

Iguanas can be petted, worn over the shoulder, given run of the house... and usually are fairly cool customers. They require basking in fairly warm sun or sunlamps for hours every day. Terrariums (or sun rooms) are adequate living quarters for them, and crickets (live preferably) are a favored food.

Lizard on a stick? Something you know plenty about.

I'd have one if it weren't for the smell.
