A puzzle for everyone who sees this

Ok here is another puzzle BUT what I want to know is what is unusual about this sentence?
'Did you know that Irish whiskey, often judged superior to the Scottish variety, existed from the beginning of the Middle Ages and quite often won prizes at medieval fairs?'
Let me know what ya think?

My guess is that this riddle has to do something about chronology. What I mean is that perhaps the whiskey of either Ireland or Scotland did not exist during Medieval times or that neither nation-state actually existed in those days. Also, my guess is that something about your riddle must be centered around the Medieval Fairs. Could it be that whiskey might have not been served at such events or Medievel Fairs could be some sort of oxymoron?
