Fel Leuk, FIV testing for Cass the Kitten
14 years ago
Doing a lot of running around this morning, first going to the clinic to pick up necessary items for the test, then helping mom take blood for test and then sitting in wait for ten minutes to see if the tests were positive.
Honestly my mother and I were staring at them for the whole ten minutes waiting.
And Cass and his sister are NEGATIVE!! XO!!!!
That means Cass and his sister aren't going to have to be euthanized. For those who don't know Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS do not have a cure, are easily spread and will kill your cat in a slow and painful death. The only humane thing to do if they're positive is to euthanize them.
The bad news? We still don't have a lead on what's making him so sick.
Mother called the vets that work for her at her clinic, and the only thing they can think of is an adverse reaction to the vaccine.
After making sure it was negative, I ran around to get different kinds of kitten food and kitten formula, seeing what he'll eat and if he doesn't seem to want to eat, start putting formula in a syringe and feeding him that way.
Currently he's still very sick, his temperature is down but only by 2 degrees so he still has a fever. He didn't want any of the expensive fancy kitten food I bought (although all the other cats seem to want it badly) and mother gave him some fluids (through an IV) and we got some formula in him.
I will try to keep you guys updated as much as possible.

One of our cats had hypothyroidism so he was referred to the vet school at my university. I think she ended up writing a paper on him; when he eventually died the autopsy revealed that he had almost no thyroid to speak of.
thanks for thinking about it and I'm sorry to hear he died .

Cats when they're grown up is always hard to determine age, so ten years is a long time to have him if he was already 6 or 7.

And then there's poor Max. He disappeared about a year ago, showing up on January 1st limping, dehydrated, half his body weight, and with a pelvis fractured in four places. They figure he was hit by a car and got dragged a bit based on the pelvis and tail damage. His bones fused back together on their own so he can walk fine now. He ended up having his tail amputated because the damage was too significant. Someone asked where we got our Manx cat; we made him XD
You're doing the best thing in the world having all those kitties and giving them a home to be happy in I hope Max lives a long time after that fiasco.

He's still got it, which is no doubt why he made it home. Any cat that can climb a chain link fence with a broken pelvis in a cold rain isn't going to sit back and do nothing.
I do worry about one of our other cats, Sebastian. In the space of about a week he came home with his lower half soaked after falling into either the pool or pond (an hour after my mother pondered such an occurrence, oddly enough; we came home and he was wet) and got his nose where it didn't belong:

From observing him, I can say without fear of contradiction that Sebastian is a phenominally stupid cat.

Sorry bout the late response to this. As mentioned before the stupid site was acting up.
Well yay that he does not have the dreaded two with no cure but boo that it is still a mystery as to what is taking place. Sorry to hear he is still not eating and having issues. Poor little guy. I hate to see animals suffer so. It breaks my heart. But if you are the good mother I know you to be and you persist he should pull through. Would be horrible for you and yer mum to go to all this and have him pass on. I pray that he gets well and you are able to figure out what it is. Sending all the best to you and him! I want you to be happy and him to be healthy!
Will wait to see how it progresses! You just do as you need to and live yer life my friend! You are most welcome! Will always give support and comment when it is needed. This kind of thing is most worthy of my attention.
Have a most excellent day!
