For those who have been to a con... and updates

Trip to, heave and ho; Up, down, to and fro- You have no word
...What's it like?
Doesn't have to be a furrycon. Just any con in general. If you've been to one, could you tell me about it? Your experience, what there is to do there, etc.
I've always been interested in 'em, but never really understood what it was all about, you know? I know a great deal of it is just masses of people getting together who share similar interests.. A lot of art n' dressing up etc. But like. For example.. Would a furrycon be welcoming to the average non-furry who is simply interested in learning more about the community or making new friends?
I dunno. Random questions for you guys. xD Thanks a million to anyone who is willing to offer any feedback whatsoever, even if you've never been you can share your thoughts. <3
I sort of told my mum I wasn't going to school in the spring. she didn't take it too well, as usual.. I explained to her that this is why I keep stuff from her because she always reacts the same way, but ultimately it's my life and my choices. Told her i'd rather be making actual money from a job than throwing it at some educational drek that may not even guarantee me a better paying career because economy is down the toilet. Beh. I feel low because i know she's upset and disappointed but at the same time so am I. I'm disappointed that i'm not making enough to eat healthy and that I can't focus enough in the classes that I do take to get decent grades. So i'm at a standstill. Hopefully things will smooth themselves out before Christmas, but I doubt it, because the inevitable talk around the dinnertable will spring up, i'm sure: "So, what classes are you taking in the spring?"
Commissions are still on hold till I finish some stuff up. Just to keep you all updated, the reason I havent opened them yet is because i'm actually working on refining some things and also working on better badge examples, as well as an actual commission price guide sheet, which is a bit more organized than my current list (Which needs updating BADLY). I am hoping to have them open in the spring and they wont be as hindered as before because I won't be going to school, so stay on the lookout, they're coming soon, I promise. :)
I want to teach myself to paint. So look out for some random art too from me.
Thanks for all your replies and loyalty, friends. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, to whatever you celebrate. :) <3

Awesome how you're learning how to paint, I'm actually doing a painting experiment right now I want to some more traditional stuff
Yeah.. I don't paint very often at all, so I want to practice doing things like backgrounds and just overall painting. One thing I really love about paints, is how bold and bright the colours are. you can really just let your creative side flow with paints. I just have to stop being intimidated by the lack of an eraser or undo button. :P
Good luck with your experiment too! I hope it turns out well for ya. n_n
The whole school issue is tough, but you're right: college doesn't guarantee you a better job. Parents can have a lot of trouble understanding that, because their generation grew up in a time where getting a higher education was less common and really did open up a world of opportunities in the job market. But that's just not the case anymore.
I think you're making a wise choice in the long run. Unless you have a specific career in mind that requires a certain degree (like a teacher or a doctor), it's probably not worth it to spend all of your money to go to a bunch of classes that don't interest you.
Oooooh, paint! I'm excited! :D
Yeah.. I dunno. I know my mum is so rough on me because her parents were so rough on her, and she's amazingly sucessful. But I dont want to do what she does and so I can't exactly go to college for that, and I still have no drive as far as a degree is concerned. I know it's nice to have a degree and all; you get priorities when people ARE hiring, but i'd much rather work hard for my living and be happy, than chasing other people's dreams to make THEM happy. I only wish they would all see how miserable I am when i'm in school, compared to how upbeat I am when i'm not.
Haha, first I need to finish cleaning. Just spent an hour bleaching my bathroom tiles and i'm all woozy. But i'm thinking that my mom's christmas present will be a painting, if I can get it done in time. ;;
Maybe try a few local meets so you'll at least know somebody! Granted your local meets aren't full of crazies XD I love fursuiting! Mostly what I do at cons is hang out, fursuit, go eat fun places with friends, dance, and check out the art and such for sale. I've never gone to panels really... I have a short attention span. I love helping people with their fursuits too, many cons I've sat for an hour and sewed something up for a somebody, or let somebody run around in one of my extra suits to give them the experience :) I think fursuits are kinda my ice breaker as it's something I know so well. Drinking with good trusted friends is fun too, if you're into that :3 My boyfriend LOVES to draw at cons, I tend to be too distracted to draw anything decent.
So if there's anything you wanna ask, I could probably answer it xD What's the closest con to you?
Good luck with the job! I chose not to go to college because I couldn't decide what to do... and it costs sooo much. I hate having bills hanging over my head. My boyfriend does pretty well for us, and he didn't finish college. We own our own home, and he supports both of us at the moment.
A local thing might be fun... I dunno. I've never really been good with socialization, or putting myself out there. I'm friendly enough, it's just a matter of getting out there and immersing myself in something new I guess.
They are all sorta out there, but the closest possible con is FC; I'm pretty sure anyway. And I figure if I do ever get the nerve to go, it'd be nice to go to a large-ish con like that, so i can get the full experience. But i've heard mixed comments about going without a suit. I heard that it's much more fun with one, and that you get to meet more people. But at the same time I have heard that people are friendly enough who arent in suit. In a way I wish I had the dough or knowhow to make an IK suit just so I could be a bit bolder at a con. For some reason when people are in a suit they have a courage boost; I guess because you aren't really yourself, but your character. I do have my Luz partial, but she still needs fixin'. Her eyes are gone and I need to make/reinstall new ones.
Questions, questions... Umm, okay. If you go in suit do you need to have a "spotter" or is it just reccomended? Because quite honestly, If I ever went in suit I wouldn't have any of my friends go with me to a con. xD Also, I know in the later hours there is lots of dance, partying, etc.. But i'm not one for that so would it be considered rude if I didn't attend these things? xD
I think if I ever did go, i'd just pick an available corner or anyplace with a chair and just doodle all day, haha.
And thank you for the wishes about the job. I hate bills looming over me too, but when I go to school my hours for working get cut back, so not only am I paying tons for classes I don't like, but I'm not earning as much to pay off my bills and fees, so it's almost a double edged sword to go.
Merry Christmas ^_^
You don't really need a spotter at a con, if you need help with something, usually everybody is more than happy to help you :) Naaa it wouldn't be considered rude! Some people are used to going to bed early, or it just isn't their thing. I go to dances, but I flit in and out depending on the music and how worn out I get. I RARELY go to room parties... Too crowded and full of people I don't know usually.
That works! Some cons actually have rooms where you can draw with others, art jams :) It's usually quiet, with somebody playing music, and you can get advice from other artist... My boyfriend LOVES going to those!
Furry cons I've been to, I usually go Thursday-Monday if I can.
Anime cons have a young crowd, usually, with tons of kids in cosplay as their fave characters. Furry cons have a wider-ranging age group, tons of people in various states of 'furry'-ness (ears and tails to full suits) and tons of people just hanging out and having fun. I've found that there's no problem for people to just go in and start absorbing the atmosphere.
I really think you're doing the right thing about the college. If you feel that it's not right, then it's not right. I spent two years at a school that I ended up hating, before I got my brain working and transferred to one that worked for me. Right now, if you can get a job that lets you save up money and feels fulfilling, then go for it! Do what makes YOU feel good. Trust me, finishing college and ending up at a part-time job trying to pay off 75k in student loans is no fun. :c
Yeah.. I really wish I had a calling, but I don't. And at this point i'm becoming more and more in debt because i've been throwing my money st school, and school has given nothing back. In my mind it's raising all sorts of red flags because I'm the kind of person who wants to save money up, in case something bad ever happens and I need it. At this point i've got next to nothing and it sucks. I'm sick of wasting money. ;;
DAT CARD ;;
Other than meeting people, it's kind of like browsing a market in the Dealer's Rooms or the Artist Alleys, and then there's panels, which are always interesting and usually pretty funny. Everyone there is accepting and good natured (or at least, everyone I've ever met at a con).
But yeah, they're just amazing.
Anyway, in any situation be prepared to bring MONEY. You're going to end up buying a lot of merchandise, and finding a parking space was expensive enough already on top of the tickets to the con. Travelling there is best if you've got someone to hitch a ride with, especially if the con is in a different state.
All in all, go for it! It's definitely worth the fun and overall experience.
I've never been to a con before, but i would LOVE to go to one one day! I'll see if I cant get one of my friends to tell you about the con stuff! <3
Cant WAIT to see those paintings!
