pros:
Finally meet people you met online
Make new friends
meet artists you like
enjoy the bizzarre atmosphere
cons:
can be boring if you don't know anyone
a lot of creepers show up
To me it's largely a social event and I've come to know a lot of people since I've been in the fandom for a long time. When I was new, I was lucky that there is a con about a 15 minute drive from me. I went to that for a few years before finally flying to one.
