New Year's resolutions: I'll show you mine if you show me...
yours!
It was a quiet new years eve yesterday but I think one of the best I have known. It doesn't take big buzzing parties to send my heart soaring, but rather the quiet simple moments in which I may find my heart's harmony. And so it was this year. We spent it watching movies and eating yummy foods..and smiling ^_^!
I don't know if it is now a faux pas to make new year's resolutions but I think they are a good thing. Sometimes we need to make promises to ourselves to be our own motivator.. or to place a self imposed deadline. Surely we spend enough time having others resolve what is to be done with our time....but to choose to better yourself and spend that small surplus of time we have to use for ourselves is a worthy effort imho! Furthermore..perhaps we should resolve to do more than we think we are able to accomplish...to reach for the assumed unattainable and to attain it . Modest resolve has it's place and necessity but to reach beyond yourself is to discover that the most distant horizon you can see is in fact well within your reach..and bigger ones still may yet be reached. Reach big, dream even bigger!
So here are mine!
The Modest:
~ get fit =D!
~ Call my mom more often (I'm terrible with talking on the phone eeee..hide from all the phones!)
~ Be more visible on FA and other online galleries...just share more which in turn hopefully will be a positive reenforcing cycle as it used to be!
~ Wrap up all old owed art by the end of January
~ Be a better and more reliable friend to the people that lend so much optimism and hope into my daily life.
~ Practice more...speedpaints/sketches/color studies
~ OC!
~ Put new art books to good use xB~
Bit less than modest:
~ Be braver about sharing my visions and let the world decide to make of them.
~ During 2010-2011, I started developing some projects on the side between work projects, the bulk of the effort has been placed into developing a graphic novel. This is something I never even remotely considered doing before as my strength's artistically have never really been steeped in the dynamic motion filled imagery that is necessary for a graphic novel. It is something I have admired deeply and wanted to be able to do in my work as well...though I doubted myself (and if I'm to be honest still do...but hey you have to push yourself to do things you aren't sure you can do if you are to ever know if you really can!). As this story developed I realized it must be told through imagery and a graphic novel of sorts is the only method I could think for it to work. 2011 was spent laying the foundations for the novel such as establishing the story, characters, practicing page layout, sketching, composition and deciding on the visual direction of the novel. Into 2012 my plan is to start unveiling the project and pushing it into the final stages of realization. To begin with core visual elements must be established, ie cover art and coloring style for the story pages. The novel name is Savuti which is also the name for the main character the story follows.
I am hoping to start unveiling the project soon and hopefully have a website going with regular updates happening sometime this year.
~Outside of that there are several other projects on the docket and as Im never really good about working in a linear fashion I hope to see these other projects develop further during the course of this year, but with the bulk of my energy dedicated to the above project. The projects are:
* The Phoenix Willow novel
* collaborative story project with Bagheera
* Wings Portfolio collaborative project: using drapery to depict various characters in spiritual flight
* and all the rest of the 'biting off more than you can chew' =D~~~..here's to a year of talking with my mouth full!
Should be an exciting, if not bit of a nervous, year ;D! But I'm looking forward to every moment and sharing in all your excitements as well!
So what are your resolutions for this year? Big, small, and all those in between! I would love to hear them all C:

I went for a selfish Health, wealth and happiness rout.
Health - out of shape. need to fix that
Wealth - need to sort out a stable income (not sure if I continue looking into computers or go for art :S )
Happiness - a little harder to fix, but a partner would be a good start :P
oh well, here goes something
Hahah - And like everyone else, I have a graphic novel in the works. We'll see about that.... it may not make it on the resolutions list quite yet
-be more considerate with money
-practice suiting
-fight against reoccuring depression
It looks like 2012 will be the year of epic graphic novels. I'm really looking forward to your work this year.
Also thank you for all the kind and encouraging comments you have left me in the last year and the chance to work on one of the most inspiring pieces I have had the privilege of working on in a long time! I am actually putting the finishing (finishing...finishing) touches on it now. Kept going back to it over the last week and finding things to embellish more. baggy finally said "Balaa stoooop...it's donnne!!!"..to which my reply was "but this bit here needs more *scribble!*. I should be posting it today. Also to which email should I send the high resolution file for your personal use? C:
Those are great resolutions! Thank you for sharing :)
Mine would have to be:
-Work on my health. (Eat better, exercise more(this will be easier now that I graduated from illustration), and resolve a few health issues I have.)
-Be more prolific with my work(more finished works to share online) and try to draw for myself more. I often get filled with guilt whenever I work on something for myself(my brain tells me I should be working on commissions). But I realized it helps to create art for others if I create art for myself (I go back to work happier, and feeling more rejuvinated). This resolution will hopefully push me to work more on concept art of a story i'm working on involving anthropomorphic warriors and their world.
-I would like to speed up the time it takes me to finish a painting. I tend to nitpick horribly long on my artworks, especially in the sketch stage 9__9
-Of course, improve my artwork and paint more (I've been working on my digital art painting skills behind the scenes). I used to be very good about practicing drawing daily by drawing 4-5 nude figures for anatomy practice and other things. The holidays have thrown me off that habit so I'll have to get back into it and fill up some sketchbooks :))
Those are pretty much mine! Sorry for the ramble.
