Apps that sucked:
I haven't found any decent weather apps. I gave The Weather Channel and Weatherbug a try and they both crash a lot. Instead I just use the internet.
HeyTell is a walkie-talkie app that records short sound files and sends them over the internet. It's apparently useful when you have decent wifi but no phone service. I have never gotten it to work.
Other ideas:
I have a screen to the right of my home screen full of bookmarks. Work email, Accuweather, local newspaper, CNN, my LJ, my Flickr, FA, etc.
WordFeud - fun Scrabble-type game. You can play with a random person or build a list of friends and send game requests.
I use an app called Transit Now Toronto to find out when the next bus is arriving. I am not sure whether it keeps track of the buses via GPS or just has the online bus schedule (ie: the next bus will arrive in 4 minutes, because it is 8:01 and the schedule says it will be here at 8:05). For GPS information, use www.nextbus.com.
GoSMS is a good SMS app that replaces your default Messenger. Customizable, AND you can add music and custom ringtones. You can't do that with the default Android Messenger.
BUMP: A vibration-sensitive app that lets your fistbump with another BUMP user and automatically exchange contact information. Kinda fun and lazy way of getting someone's phone number.
Antivirus: made by AVG. Works great.
Wizard Memo: I was disappointed that my Android phone didn't have an Organizer or a Memo pad, but my old phone did. Lame. This app lets you make notes and memos, with a cool background that looks like a pad of paper.
DI Radio: Digitally Imported Android app. Lets you stream music from DI.fm on your phone.
Trillian/Skype: For messaging.
Glow Hockey: This is the air hockey game that you played at my house over the weekend.
As a nearly two year android user, I'll make my suggestions.
Note: You need to know what version of android you have. For example, if you have an Android 2.2+ phone, or a dual-core phone, you do NOT need a task killer, like Advanced Task Killer. They do NOT save battery. (Explanation: http://lifehacker.com/5650894/ )
ES File Explorer: File and network explorer with support for archives, moving things around, ZIP files, FTP, search, root explorer, and many other features. Free, and totally worth it. https://market.android.com/details?.....gs.android.pop
Games
(Note: Almost every iOS game that is worth playing is on Android too, including Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, PvZ, Fruit Ninja, and even GTAIII. I'll give you a few games that may not be obvious.)
FriendCaster (Better then the Offical Facebook App)
TweetCaster (Better then Offical Twitter app.)
Zedge: Ringtones & Wallpapers
TVListings
IM+ (My favorite Instant Messagner. Has Skype Support too.)
Angry Birds (Of Course, The recent updates it's had has make rather laggy on my Samsung Intercept which sucks really cuz i love Angry Birds.)

Avast! Mobile Security: Hands down, the best AV software ever. Completely free, has everything you need, and includes embedded Anti-theft (best with root), that can help you recover your phone, or nuke it from afar.
