<Insert Clever and/or Witty Header>
Artistic people are often misunderstood. This has been a long understood fact since the first slapped mud and feces up on a cave wall in the shape of a mammoth. And I guess this whole journal/rant stems from the place I've found myself creatively. I do agree in the concept that if vulgarity makes the joke funny, then the joke in itself isn't funny. Profanity should be used as an amplification device, not a punch line. That being said, I do have a lot of profanity in what I write and act in. There are two reasons for this. I don't sugar coat things. My work is intended for adults, and as an adult, you should have a concept of how the world and people work by this point. And if you don't, well, strap your training wheels back on. I write for adults. I perform for adults. (That sounds slightly perverted, but then again, this is FA, this site lives and breathes perversion.) And the other reason is because I write a lot for myself. I laugh what I find funny, enjoyable, and true. I'm not a short order cook, I don't curtail my material because someone wants yet another religious rant or wants me to slam so and so because they were gettin' blowjays under the table, while juggling their campaign. There is a reason I don't do those things...and it may come as a shock, but I don't care. Not in the slightest. Those things are not things I want associated with my creative side of my life. Mainly because they both tend to destroy anything they touch, thus, I don't want them anywhere near something I actually value substantially more then anything else.
My humor is a commentary on day to day life. Embellished a bit, of course, but it is my humor. Now, I understand all to well that we all have our own personal taste when it comes to humor. As is our right! I will never condemn someone because their taste is not savory to my particular pallet. But, I will most assuredly tell someone to go get fucked should they decide that they need to take it upon themselves to tell me how to do what I do. Constructive criticism is more then welcome. But simply stating, "You cuss to much." or "That one part ruined the whole thing." or my favorite, "I found that offensive, take it down!" And I shall answer all 3 of these complaints in order:
1. Go fuck yourself. They're words, not physical blows. I do not use racist phrases. I understand the context in which words can hurt, and I do not use them in that context. You are merely upset because of the fact it is a swear word, regardless the context it is used. So for that, I say, "Fuck fuckety, shit shat shite, ass monkey banana nose!" Get over it. I swear. I do know the time and place to do it, I am considerate with it. But it WILL be in my creative work. Don't like it? -Watch, fuck you very much.
2. This one almost always sends me into a blind rage. "That one part ruined the whole thing." What...the..FUCK! You would condemn an entire work because of one aspect?! How narrow minded and sheltered are you?! If you are unable to look past a single aspect of something, I do not want to even associate with you. All that says is that you are such an uptight asshole that if you don't get your way 100%, you're going to stomp your feet and hold your breath until you get your way. You overgrown, adultchild!
3. Now, this one I do understand that if a work you did blatantly is racist or sexist, yes, you should take it down. There are places for things like that, as there are audiences for all works (not saying its right that there are, just stating that they exist.) And there are PRIVATE places for you're particular material. But telling me that a single aspect of something I've done has offended you and that I need to rip it down is unfounded. I don't think anyone told da Vinci, "Hey, I like red heads only, take that Mona Lisa bitch down, I find her offensive." FUCK NO! Its very simple, If you don't like something, then DON'T LOOK AT IT! Cut and dry. There is no middle ground, there is no grey area. If you don't like it, close the window and keep your condescending and unfounded comments to yourself.
My humor is dark, sketchy at times, and at a few points, intentionally childish. It is what I find funny. Here's my disclaimer now. My "I told ya so." I am not focusing on serious subjects because the world is serious enough right now, and all that crap is shoved down our throats all the time. I focus on the humor that makes us laugh like we laughed back when we were kids. It keeps you young both in spirit, but in body too. If you want your educated humor, the New Yorker style jokes, go find them elsewhere, because you won't find them here.
But, that aside. Have a good evening :)
