Homophobia? In FURRY? It's more likely than you think.

You know, I'm getting awfully sick of hearing straight furries bitch about how gay furries treat them. Not that this hasn't been an issue, with many gay furries demanding heterosexually oriented artists draw more male on male, putting pressure on straight males to been more sexually inviting to gay males, and emphasis (quickly shrinking, by the way) on homosexual art that's been prevalent since the fandom got big.
However, the way in which I'm seeing a lot of straight furs deal with this is throwing the word "Faggots", "Queers" and other derogatory words around, with inflammatory statements that honestly don't help civil discourse at all. I'm not saying that you need to just suck it up and deal with it, far from it. But don't be a hateful, spiteful asshole just because a couple of gay guys got all indignant on you.
Stop trying to scream your "straightness" from the rooftops. Guess what? You may, MAY be a minority in this fandom, but gays? We're a fucking minority EVERYWHERE ELSE. I raise my eyebrow in concern when I hear "gay pride" because that shit is already beginning to lose it's purpose. "Straight pride"? Never had a purpose to begin with. It's like being proud of breathing oxygen; it was never a big deal in the first place.
Also, gay white knights trying to support straight people in the fandom? Stop calling effeminate, flashy gay guys "faggots". One, you're being judgmental assholes. Two, you're stealing from the Chris Rock joke about "Niggers". Three, it doesn't make you look more intelligent, it makes you look smarmy and superior. That kind of shit needs to be cut out.
Lastly, gay furries who are hounding straight artists, harassing straight peeps are cons and parties, and all of you who think that heterosexuality has no place in the fandom? Knock it off. Just because they don't find you sexually attractive doesn't mean they can't be your friends, doesn't mean they hate you or judge you because you're gay. Heterophobia is one of the absolute most ironic cases of bigotry I've ever seen and it needs to fuckin' stop.

FA+

but all in all you are absolutely right. ive seen it happen here, too and it pisses me off.
the fact that gays here are harassing straight peeps and artists is sadly also true and is just as terrible!
during the last couple of years i really wondered what happened to the community aspect of this group :T
How Garrison got so fed up about having gay looking people turn out to not be gay.
It also introduced the South Park universe to, and say it with me now:
CRAAAAAB PEEOPLE!
Metrosexuality comes to South Park thanks to the popularity of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy". This was an actual show where five gay guys were called in by someone, either a family member, wife, or friend, to give a makeover to a straight guy. This involved helping them with better fashion, better hygiene, better cooking skills, etc. After the makeover, family and friends are invited over to see the new look, and a party is held. It was VERY popular for a while, and helped spawn a number of makeover shows.
So in the South Park episode, the boys and the men of the town start going metrosexual, much to the delight of their wives and the lady folk in the town. The men in their lives are cooking, cleaning, being neat and tidy, and all without them having to nag or what not. However, things quickly turn sour after a while when the metrosexual men become WAAAAYYY too girly for the women (in hilarious and over the top ways). It gets really bad when typical manly things (fixing cars, doing handyman work, etc.) stop getting done and fall to the wayside.
This also further infuriates Mr. Garrison who had finally come out of the closet and admitted he was gay. He starts to think that the metrosexual men might be open to a one night stand with him, but they all turn him down because "I'm metrosexual, not gay". But because metrosexual and gay all look the same to Mr. Garrison, it just drives him nuts.
Led by Mr. Garrison, he goes to confront the "Fab Five" because of how they're changing things and making things miserable for him. He pleads to their gay nature and asks why they'd want to makeover straight guys to trick gay men into thinking their gay.
That's when Mr. Garrison realizes that the "Fab Five" aren't gay at all! In fact, they aren't even HUMAN!
They're CRAAAAAB PEEOPLE! CRAAAAAB PEEOPLE!
They explain to Mr. Garrison their sinister plot to take over the surface world by using the show as a means to make all the men in the world metrosexual, and therefore make them total pussies. With them being too girly to fight, it would be simple for the Crab People to launch an invasion against the humans and take over. They then seize Garrison and the boys who then have to find a way to expose them and thwart their plan.
Hilarity ensues.
Hope that helps. :3
And I haven't watched that episode in years, yet I remember it so vividly! WHY DO I REMEMBER SUCH TRIVIAL THINGS!
That
It
Is
Well, pretty much all of FA is "someone to really have a lot of care with"
And what's the deal with bisexual furries? Why are there still members of the fandom that think sexuality has to be a fixed polar thing?
hmmm *thinks about it*
Here's how I picture it (as a heterosexual male who's married to a loving wife, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt):
To most heterosexual guys it would go:
Bisexual woman... open to three way... AWESOME!
Bisexual man... open to three way... ehhhhhhh
To most heterosexual ladies it would go:
Bisexual woman... open to three way... ehhhhhh
Bisexual man... open to three way... AWESOME!
To most homosexual guys it would go:
Bisexual woman... expressing her sexual freedom... You Go Girlfriend!
Bisexual man... expressing his sexual freedom... "EWWWW! You're tainted!"
To most homosexual woman it would go:
Bisexual woman... expressing her sexual freedom... "EWWWW! You're tainted!"
Bisexual man... expressing his sexual freedom... "You Go Boyfriend!"
Now like I said, I'm just some heterosexual guy who's married that's been around this board for a while, and from a casual perspective, this is how I picture the viewpoints of others in regards to Bisexuality. It may be horribly generalized and horribly off the mark, but like I said, take my words with a grain of salt.
Still, what I don't hear much of is the expressions of people who actually ARE Bisexual. I see lots of Bisexual CHARACTERS on FA, but characters are characters, and people are people. And frankly, it's the people I'm more interested in hearing from, then the POV of their characters. A straight guy can make the gayest character possible in the gayest possible pornography (art wise) simply because it makes them money. But what their character does and says does not indicate their personal feelings and thoughts. Hence, why characters do not make the person.
And please, if I'm wrong, correct me. Last thing I want to do is be mistaken.
And I'm glad to hear that you're in a steady, serious relationship. Although I can see how to someone that doesn't know you, they may go: "Wait, if you're in a relationship with a guy, wouldn't that make you gay?" (I'm assuming you're male, correct me if I'm wrong) Someone else may go: "So does that mean you're like... 80% gay and 20% straight? How does that work?"
Again, grain of salt here, I openly admit that I don't know what I'm talking about, but I am curious if you ever get people asking you those kinds of things. Do you get questions from both gay and straight people about it?
Furthermore, from what you say, it reminds me of
And I agree, I can vary on my male/female preference depending on my mood sometimes too! Of course, I should also note the very important fact that while I'm attracted to females, I've never been with one, which I'm sure would bring in some people to say "well, you can't really be sure unless you've tried it, then!"...because some of these gay guys are AMAZINGLY militant. o.o But really, even though I haven't slept with a woman, I AM sure I have an attraction, which is why I identify as bi.
I'm also doing my best not to start on long-winded rants that will go WAY off topic, because I do have the potential. XD
((Seriously, I love that joke in the journal you linked to! XD))
Either way HeteroHomo squabbling does need to stop.
Like time travel!
"Ah, let's see, time on clock is 8:45 PM, and calendar... calendar... HERE WE GO! 2012 AD... oh January! I'm way too early! The attack doesn't start until March! Right no problem then. That gives me lots of time to prepa..."
THEN notices the couple who are holding the sheets over themselves with WTF looks on their faces.
"Oh! So sorry. Didn't mean to interrupt! Just kind of missed my stop by about two months. Please, carry on, I'll be out of your way in just a min..."
*BOOM*
"Oh hell! Now what?"
That would be one of the most interesting things ever.
Yet we don't see much in the way of furry comedy, science fiction, drama, or fantasy that doesn't involve sex as a major factor.
It's like having sex be a part of it is a criteria for something to be "furry". But when you take something like Kung-Fu Panda, which is an action comedy movie with a tubby Panda learning Kung-Fu, you don't tend to think about something like that as "Furry". (Not counting Rule 34, I mean the actual movies)
Another example would be Art Spiegelman's "MAUS", in which all the characters are drawn as anthropomorphic animals in a true-story describing how Spiegelman's grandfather survived the Holocaust. "MAUS" is considered a literary classic, and is even read and discussed in high school or college literary courses. By all intents and purposes, it should be considered furry.
But it's not talked much, the characters referenced much, or appears much in the fandom. Why is that?
You are right that people in the furry fandom are more open about sexuality than most others, but does that mean that sex has to be a part of ALL works that are "Furry"? Can you not have "Furry" without "Sex" or "Sexuality"?
As was said, "Funny Animals" have been around long before me, and will still exist and continue to exist long after. The whole furry fandom didn't creep in until the 70's-80's when underground and indie comics started taking funny animals and making them adult oriented. This didn't mean porno stories at the time, but it did mean that stories about racism, adult life, and even violence could permeate what was once the domain of solely cartoons. Fritz the Cat, for example, had a toony look, but focused on Fritz's life on the streets and dealt with issues regarding sex, drugs, racism, etc. Omaha the Cat Dancer was a comic about a stripper, yes, but it wasn't all about the sex and nudity. It also focused on relationships, love, and making ends meet.
There were also plenty of underground comics that got more attention and didn't even bother with sex, and actually had more violence and action.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (The "Prime" universe), Usagi Yojimbo, and Bucky O'Hare all started out as comics, with different settings, lots of action, and some really cool stories. There are still fans of these series within the furry fandom, but you'll be hard pressed to find interest that goes beyond Rule 34.
I've heard lots of people give different accounts of when they think things changed. Some say it was when the Internet took off. Some say it was an event that happened at a con that set a chain of events in motion. Some say it was just a gradual evolution with no real starting point.
But what I can say is that regardless of what started it, the sex talk, sexuality discussion, and the pronz are the more popular topics for talk and art among the fandom. I think it's safe to say that few would argue that. And while I don't want to take any of that away, I think it would be help balance things out a bit if there were more talk, art, and comics that focused on OTHER things, like action, adventure, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.
Genres other than the various sub-genres of XXX.
And how about those apparently FTL neutrinos from the CERN LHC experiments. 70 nanoseconds as a lot of time for it to be an error.
Then there is the Tippler cylinder. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/c.....metravel01.htm
Tippler's paper was another exercise in none dare speak its name; he referred to the results as "potential global causality violation."
Ye Olde Bisexual Aerospace Physicist
Of course, furry yiffery is easier to implement, and a lot of fun, too...
The truly bad thing about this, and the reason I think some straight furs hate the 'faggots' who do this, is that they should know better! They have to deal with this type of hatred all the time and what do they do, turn around and engage in a much worse hatred for straight or bi furs. Worse because THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!! They can't claim even the pathetically thin excuse of ignorance on this as they know first hand what that sort of hate can do.
Also, Chris Rocks joke is rather painfully true. Every group has those in it that live up to the worst aspects of the group stereotype, and those are sadly the ones who get the most attention and where hatred for a group usually starts.
