SOPA/PIPA nonsense

And so says Reacter the Red Fox:
I'm seeing way too much of this nonsense. Wanna' know an interesting idea? ... Well, tough, I wouldn't advise further reading. A) Part of the issue is that we downloaded too much "stuff". B) People are naturally greedy. C) I'm going to use this as an excuse to throw my political views. Hence, stop reading now.
A) I'm not criticizing anybody of anything, nor am I going to be mean-people have a tough time sometimes parting with money. Therefore, we're not likely, if given the choice between a free copy and a $20 item that should maybe be, at most, $2, to pull that $20 and hand it over. I'm guilty of this, too-that mentality of, "Eurgh ... I have a copy of Win2k. I think I'll just go ahead and throw it on this lappie. I dunno if I still have a license, can't remember if I used it before ..." is just so easy to take.
B) Recording industries say that the people they represent are going to lose money. My response is short and simple: Bullshit. Give your people some of the dough you roll in. Also, people need to be more independent: How did Randy Travis get his start? Hint: Look up the album "Randy Ray: Live at the Nashville Palace." A lot of people have been "indies". I respect those people-it's not "stickin' it to the man", it is retaining some form of individual freedom. It's more work, but pays off.
C) I'm a Libertarian: Here's what I think of government. Here's some money, go build an army, help deal with criminals, deal with other countries. Then, fuck off. We DON'T FUCKING NEED GOVERNMENT in EVERY ASPECT of our DAMN LIVES. Privatize shit. Make industry look after itself-I'm not supporting full lassez-faire, but hell, if you are too stupid to do something right, you're ass is going to go under! I can argue for hours, but I don't want to.
Short and simply: I don't mean to rant, I just really badly hate this situation. The internet is my home, I hate coming home to a bullshit fest.
PS: Artists who support SOPA because "I don't want my work stolen!!!! BAW!" ... And I mean the artists who do stuff for free. People can and will be assholes. People also like shinies, and like to promote your work, too, some people actually do have good hearts. Lay off, or get aggressive-We're already in a litigation based society. Sue. Or, ask the content provider, as outlined under DCMA, to please make it go away.
CAUTION: DISCLAIMER! I'm a negative person. But I have to believe in the best of humanity, or I have nothing else to live for. Please don't flame me. Be safe, and much love to everyone.

I agree that piracy is bad, but reacting to it as if you can get rid of it 100% isn't the way to go. As you said, many games feel as if they're worth less than $2. but the developers who made it don't feel that way as they put effort into it.
Best thing to do on your part is recognize there's an issue with the legislation, not these sites. Bowing to MPAA claiming it's a publicity stunt' is crap, and it should be attacked, while supporting the people who develop actual good stuff, such as Bastion, DXHR, and more.
Again, you are right in that I was drastically oversimplifying the issue regarding cost-I dislike markups, but it is fair that everyone gets a cut. In that case, I merely mean to say that people have emotional issues that they do not always mean to be hurting someone, but once removed from the seller directly, they start to phase over, and don't see it as harmful any longer, condoning in their minds, piracy.
I understand that there is an issue with the legislation, I really wish we could find something that works more with DCMA's system, which to me seems to work better. I would truly love piracy to end, and our record/entertainment industries, for example, to feel less threatened, but in the meantime, it would be great to figure out a way for "good" companies to be rewarded despite piracy, not by iron fisting.
Thank you, very much-I love having someone redirect my anger, and make it fade, and be useful-Do feel free to pick anything further, and of course, give your own outright thoughts!
