Furry Convention in MD?
We have a survey that is asking questions about a possible Baltimore Furry Con starting in 2013. Its been asked to be passed around so that the opinion of the furs in the area could be included in the planning. If anyone is interested in providing input into this, please feel free to follow the link.

Maryland con would be great. Maryland con held in same place as Otakon would be 50x more awesome, though I don't see that happening quite yet XD

Haha, would be epic though.

Yeah, the Baltimore Convention Center is kiiiiinda huge for a starting-off con. Give it time, though. Start small, then conquer >:3

Yep! Baltimore COn Center Would be a little nuts, and I'm all good with small cons. But I can dream XD

How may furry conventions does one need? I wouldn't otherwise mind one nearby, especially if I can attend it, but there are enough of them! I only attend a limited number of conventions, even distant ones. I prefer a lot of local parties/meets over a full-blown convention.

The point of having different conventions in different locations is so that people who cannot travel to other conventions can have one close by. I live in Maryland and the only convention I attend is Anthrocon because it's the only one close enough for me to feel comfortable driving to. I would love to have one nearby so I can go to more than one con each year.

This. So much this.

As great as this would be, I'm not quite sure the attendance would reach the point to where the BCC is a viable venue.

Maybe not right away, but I don't see why a nice hotel wouldn't be doable. and then if it outgrows it we can go from there. I think that's how most cons start anyway lol
RyujiKimura
~ryujikimura
Oh that is definitely doable. Otakon is almost 30,000 attendees large, and the Baltimore Convention Center is built to hold that many. Then again, David Lawrence was also fairly huge and a large chunk of it went unused.

Well I think the cost of the convention center use is based on the amount of space and utilities used :P So I think if you only use half the convention center, you don't pay for the whole thing. At least that's what it sounded like Uncle Kage was saying at one point lol
RyujiKimura
~ryujikimura
Really? Surprising considering the rest of the convention center is rendered unusable.

Not always. For Furstivus, we used one part of the hotel's meetingrooms, and there was a wedding on the other side at one point, as well as some other things going on ^^
RyujiKimura
~ryujikimura
Really?! That's hilarious!! The look on the newlyweds' faces and all their guests must have been priceless.

I agree.. and I've found a lot of times a nice smaller hotel is great for starting because it's a big deal to them as well; thusly, they are far more accommodating than a huuuuge place would be.

Exactly :3 Made NYFB super fun when I went :P

Downtown Baltimore is 10 minutes away from where I live, including traffic. I'd be there with bells on. :)

A hotel would be a good start but I honestly can't see more than 150-250 attending the first year. Plus you have to consider which weekend every year to hold it & ensure it doesn't overlap another con or event that is nearby.
