I do that most of the time. I hate when I'm working on something and ONLINE people are like "Oooh can I see?" No you can't see! I'm a traditional artist you weirdos! If I have a friend over and we're both drawing tho, I like to give progress looks to see if they have any feed back for "the eyes are too wide apart" "the arm looks wonky" "theres no eyebrows" etc

This isn't just people online, this is people in the real world, especially those I don't know very well. I'm shy as hell as it is, and can't work for shit when other people are over visiting. I just stop and can't draw. And it really sucks, because there's nowhere I can escape to here to draw in privacy :(

No, not really. In my case it's not only a concentration thing, but a self conscious thing. Strange people simply being in the same room while I'm drawing throws off my concentration.

I'm not a big fan of having an audience either. But I love showing finished pieces off.

I don't mind people watching so much but can't seem to get anything really creative done while chatting online. It's much too distracting. IRL it's not so bad to do sketches at a party or at a con or something. I've thought of doing streams but I think it would be even more distracting.

I know exactly what you mean--and I used to be like that at first. Then, after a while of hanging out at art jams with other artists, I started to feel comfortable with people watching or watching others because everybody was an artist and everybody has their own style/technique and stuff to share. Eventually, it didn't even bother me to have just anyone watch. 'Course, this is all back when I used to draw. Now that I've been burned and I stopped drawing, pretty much, I feel like I've reverted back and I feel uncomfortable with being watched/interacted with whenever I'm arting. I'm no sure what my deal is, honestly.

Sometimes I feel like the father from The Shining at the hotel trying to work on writing. Sometimes i feel like I can come off as being a real bitch, even though I honestly don't mean to. It's just I can't for the life of me concentrate and get REAL self-concious :/

Yup! That's where I've reverted back to. I can genuinely sympathize. Don't feel bad about it--just let them know you feel self-conscious when you're trying to do art and someone's watching or trying to engage you--most people will chalk it up to 'artist eccentricity' than being a bitch/bastard. Also--be sure you're drinking a Starbuck's so the message it totally clear. ;)

Yep. Total mood killer. It's not as annoying as it used to be, seeing how I'm slightly faster at art and feel less incompetent while drawing, but it's still annoying.

My dad used to do this to me with my math homework. He just didn't seem to understand that having someone breathing over my shoulder while I'm trying to concentrate pissed me off.

I figured this was a fairly standard thing with artists in general, truth be told. I know I can be that way when I'm working on music, but more often than not, I tend to tune everything else out anyhow... xD;

Actually, I love chit-chat and random distractions when arting, but they have a HORRIBLE slow-down effect on me. Takes 5 hours to get 2 hours worth of art done, and THAT part I don't like.
