Let's talk about...GENETICS.

Okay. I get it. We all want to be different. Largely, that's why we're furries - if we were NORMAL nerds we'd all be writing Ouran Host Club slashfiction. But we're not. We love strangeness in furry.
Furthermore, as we saw for the first time in the West debacle, there is now an actual hostility toward non-extreme fursona choices. Add to that the ever-increasing size of the fandom, and the need to stand out among those standing out grows ever more...desperate.
So we have angel wings, or bi-colored eyeballs, or purple fur, or we glow green, or we're 900 feet tall, or we wear raver gear EVEN THOUGH THE ACTUAL RAVE SCENE DIED IN LIKE 1998. And, most popularly, we end up being all sorts of insane species mixes.
I get it. And that's....... *grits teeth* fine. IT'S JUST FINE.
What I CANNOT abide, however, is BAD. MATH.
So. let's talk about genetics. For this exercise, I am going to talk about genetics while holding this sharp, sharp philips-head screwdriver. AS A VISUAL AID.
Any given offspring is derived from the genetic material of two parents. Your genetic material represents 1/2 of each of theirs. If one of them is himself or herself a hybrid, you get half of each of THEIR derivative genetic material: 1/2 divided by 2 is 1/4. And so on and so on. If your great-grandfurry was 1/2 wolf, your grandfur was 1/4 wolf, your parent was 1/8 wolf, and you are 1/16th wolf.
SO THIS 'THIRDS' BULLSHIT IS NOT GOING TO WORK. YOU CANNOT BE 33% OF SOMETHING. IT IS JUST NOT MATHEMATICALLY POSSIBLE. And while we are ignoring the lines of biology and genetics in this fandom SO HELP ME DOG I will not allow the wanton abuse of math.
Here's an easy solution: I am german shepherd, yorkshire terrier, and grey wolf. BUT SHEP YOU JUST SAID SHUT UP I'M GETTING THERE
yes. I'm 1/2 shepherd, 1/4 wolf and 1/4 yorkie. LOOK! THREE SPECIES! BUT WITH GOOD MATH! See how much nicer that is? Look, I'm setting down the screwdriver. DOESN'T EVERYONE FEEL BETTER.
For added fun: each of my parents was 1/2 shepherd. So if daddy was a shepherdwolf and mommy was a shepherd-yorkie, I still get three source species, it's a little more interesting, and since 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2 nobody gets stabbed with this screwdriver, which you may notice I have picked up again.
If you still need mathematically impossible species derivation to make you interesting, may I suggest developing a personality. <3

FA+

BTW: Gilgamesh was 2/3rds god. Just sayin'
MCKENNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WHAT ARE YOU DOEEEEEEEEEEEENG
I always just assumed you were 1/2; 1/4; 1/4
...
NO TREM NOT YOU TOOOOOOOOOOOO D:
IT'S PERFECT TREM.
*high-pitched shriekey voice* WHY CAN'T YOU ALL DO THE MATH LIKE TREM CAN AIEEEEEEYIYIIYIYI YAPYPAYPAYPAYAP
... ok... I'm gonna have that on mind... although... you won't like my furry... XD... a canine riddle it is... looks like a shiba (maybe akita... for the height XD)... BUT... UNSTABLE DNA... XP XD
honestly, it's just enough to completely ruin my personality, but NOT enough to make it so i can ride around in a purse. kind of a raw deal, if you ask me.
IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE UNSTABLE THERE ARE LIKE 300 BREEDS OF DOG AND INFINITE CROSSBREEDING POTENTIAL I'M SUR EYOU CAN FIND SOMETHING THAT FIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSSSSS lol
i was just watching a "resident evil" movie, don't talk to me about unstable DNA @_@
... you aren't my mother to tell me what to do... even so XD... My father is a brown wolf... my mother is a mutt... my sister is a poodle... and I'm 1/8 shiba/akita, 1/8 grey wolf, 1/8 coyote, 1/8 fox, 1/8 hyena, 1/8 dingo, 1/8 side-striped jackal, 1/8 were-wolf... -.- the weird one on my family... and also the awesome one XD... -.- seriously... how do you explain that "Master"? XP
If 169 of your great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents were one species (you never said which ones), that's 33% of 512. Rounded, of course If you go back even further I'm sure you can get close to 33.33%
Yeah, that's stretching, except I see plenty of people saying they're "mutts" and are part Irish/Scottish/Italian/Slovakian/German/etc, so clearly some people DO keep track of extended family trees.
(You brought this up with an accountant around??)
OHHHHHH HOHOHOHO LOOK WHO ELSE IS IN FINANCE: MEEEEEEEEE.
so: yes, it's mathematically possible, I SUPPOSE, through a staggering series of coincidences and the most boring backstory-establishment in the history of furry. but since most of these people have clearly not even thought of what the hell their IMMEDIATE parents were supposed to be THAT SORT OF BELIES the "clearly this person has their shit charted back to Ellis Island" argument, lol
p.s. if you DO find a person who has done this, do NOT introduce me, because i will then have to dedicate my life to mocking that person
Yyyeah? Did you go to a math-science based high school and have a major that included calculus and statistics? Seriously, would you WANT to be geekier than an accountant?!
You know what? I'm making things too damn complicated.
My family is 100% Japanese, including my sister. My bro-in-law is 1/4 Japanese.
That makes my niece 37.5% Chinese, which I think any average person would consider reasonable to round to 1/3 Chinese. 100% true story.
Bazinga XD
. . . .
huh. O.O yeah i just did the math and, uh.....you're right.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you did not just prove this IS kinda sorta possible ^^;;;;;;;;;;;;
oh come on vince i thought we were FRIENDS
So.........I wonder if it's possible to be an "even" 30%/30%/30%
still easier to do 1/4 1/4 1/2 ;)
Although this only applies to the magical and Fae based creatures, so genetics is arguably nonapplicable.
Also to be considered is we're dealing with the mind, where the basic rule of thumb is Anything Goes, sadly. And people can't do math for shit, seriously.
ALSO I AM STILL HOLDING THE SCREWDRIVERS, DO NOT START TALKING TO ME ABOUT FAIRIES *crazy eyes*
actually, it looks like the next big thing is this "fey/fairy" horseshit, which i'm going to have to look up so i can make fun of it :3
Actually, fey/fairy can be applied to just about any spirit of nature from the mythology of any culture, including the often used kitsune and NA coyote. Shapeshifters/tricksters and all.
Though for the record, I still am offended on behalf of a certain WOLIGER, until he reads this journal and can stand up for himself!
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooomahgard.
You know my guy is 100% Siberian tiger, and 400% awesome. :P
i would say you're more like 8000% awesome, but that's just me
No but seriously. Faery Tales will never die!
<captain_obvious>
i lol'ed irl at this :3
yes, but cubans are often hot, so I'm okay with that. Except for Pit Bull, who ended up looking like my accountant. He SOUNDS hot. Why isn't he ACTUALLY hot?
As for math behind genetics on how one's Fursona should be, that's very much disturbed me many times with other furs. S'why if anyone asks, I'm 1/2th lion, 1/4th tiger and 1/4th Wolf. Mom was a lioness and dad was a tiger/wolf. XD
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOOD MATH! YOU ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTING GENETIC PROFILES! i'm going to make sweet, sweet nerd-love to you now. while your boyfriend taps his foot impatiently. :3 YAYYYYY
You look like a nice guy nwn
