Need Broadway Songs
If you want, you may call me Mangy, but pronounce the 'G'!
Okay heres whats going down.
Theres so much stuff on my plate right now as far as projects go towards the fandom.
Here a new one that just fell into my lap.
At Confuzzled I'm requested to have a stage performance for the sponsors.
They were like... 20 minutes of dancing please young chap.
I was like.... FFFFFFfffffffff o.o You're outta yer mind
And I blew up a little.
Then my mind-gears gots a turning.
And I figured, I can interpret and pantomime several Broadway songs.
They are mostly gesturing and little foot work. I can last much longer that way.
I'm not a huge broadway fan so I'm afraid I can't recall the best songs to choose from at the moment.
Please share with me your knowledge and ideas on what could make good numbers for a solo performer... I may have cutouts on stage with me too to interact with XP
Comedic acts, yes I love those. If they have a couple of singing characters I can probably pretend I have multiple personality syndrome and interpret both parts.
Any well known musical acts.
Even the cult ones.
I think I'll have to give them Sweet Transvestite as one of the numbers for sure.
Perhaps be our guest' from Beauty and the Best?
What about Cell Block Tango from Chicago?
Give me your opinions and suggestions! I need several songs

FA+

Hello Little Girl - Into the Woods
You can be the loud as the hell you want - Avenue Q
Dancing thru life - Wicked
Take me or Leave me - Rent
Don Quixote - Man of La Mancha
Whats the Buzz - Jesus Christ Superstar
Christ you know I love you - Jesus Christ Superstar
Master of the House - Les Miserables
Superstar - Jesus Christ Superstar
Hard Knock Life - Annie
You can't get a man with a gun - Annie get your gun
There's no business like show business - Annie get your gun
Willkomen - Caberet
I have more if you need them, but these are some of my favorites :D could dance to them all in a different way :D
Know any good examples of a real Perky song?
Maybe a song from Fiddler on the Roof?
A Wicked song would be cool, but there's not much choreography to most of their songs.
The Music Man has a lot of marching - 76 Trombones would prolly be a good pick from that.
Mary Poppins is a musical now - Give the men from across the pond a little bit of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?
You pick!

Would be VERY entertaining to see how you could make a dance out of those~ =)
But, nonetheless, hope you find the right Broadway for you Good luck and have fun when Confuzzled comes around~
With a choreographed dance routine though out of those songs, THAT would be something I would be willing to see, especially considering the variety of singing/talking in Avenue Q songs~ And considering your creativity in your dance performances, I am sure you could come up with something [ii]astounding[/i]~
But of course, do whatever you think is best to your capability. Whatever it is you finally decide to do, though, I am sure everyone will enjoy
Wicked - Popular, Defying Gravity
RENT - La Vie Boheme, Season's of Love
Hairspray - Good Morning Baltimore
There's just so many you can choose from.

Bit obscure I suppose.
if your looking for dancy type song, Hairspray is great. Lots of dance songs. Run and Tell That, You Can't Stop the Beat, and Ladies Choice are all good picks from that one. I own the movie on DVD if you wanna watch it next time you're here. There is even a Legally Blonde the Musical that has silly songs like OMG You Guys. I know a lot of people are suggesting Rent, I personally think you'd do well with Today for You, Tomorrow for Me
If your looking for something slower, fans of Lion King on Broadway really love Endless Night which is a song exclusive to the show and it is preformed solo on stage in the actual play. There are tons of youtube videos if you wanna hear the song.
You also have your classic musicals which have a more jolly show tune type style. Here are some more well known songs:
Annie Get Your Gun - Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better
Crazy For You - I've Got Rhythm
Singin' in the Rain - Good Mornin'
Cabaret - Life is a Cabaret!
And actually I know a lot of musical snobs look down on it but Glee has done a lot of really awesome Broadway mash ups. Singin' in the Rain/Umbrella, Anything Goes/I Can Do Better - just to name a few.
Hope this helps. If I can think of more I'll let you know or just stop me next time you are over and we can talk about it more :)
Next To Normal- I'm Alive
Rent- Today 4 U
Spring Awakening- The Bitch Of Living
Wonderland- Go With The Flow
That's all I got for stuff that can probably be solo'd. v_v
A Chorus Line - Opening: I Hope I Get It - This song is written for dance, upbeat and actually framed around an audition.
Aida - My Strongest Suit - The song opens up slowly, but finishes in a big Tina Turner "Rolling Down the River" explosion.
Bare - God Don't Make No Trash - Hilarious gospel number that is up tempo, it's Off-Broadway, but a good choice for progressive audiences.
Beauty and the Beast - Gaston - Everyone does Be Our Guest, it's overplayed and has too many characters for a one man act.
Cats - Magical Mr. Mistoffelees or Skimbleshanks... or Rum Tum Tugger - Lots of fun and recognizable songs.
Cinderella - A Lovely Night - A nice waltz that you can use for a break, plus it's Julie Andrews.
Dreamgirls - One Night Only - There is both a Disco and Dance remix for this on the album, I'd go with Disco, it's a little less over the top.
Evita - Buenos Aires - Come on, how often do you get Madonna in Broadway? It's a very fun song with a great beat!
Hairspray - Good Morning Baltimore or You Can't Stop the Beat - The whole musical is fun dance music, but these really shine!
Into The Woods - Hello Little Girl or Agony - Neither are especially fast, but both are hilarious, the first is morbid and lustful.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Go, Go, Go, Joseph! - Such a fun disco influenced song!
Mamma Mia! - Dancing Queen - So in all seriousness you can use just about any song from this musical, but this one is just classic.
Marry Poppins - Step In Time - The movie version is much better for dancing, the Broadway is too pretentious and should be avoided.
Moulin Rouge! - Elephant Love Medley or El Tango de Roxanne - Fun to choreograph and are slower to catch your breath.
Rent - Today 4 U - La Vie Boheme is overdone honestly, choose this flamboyant diddy to strut your stuff!
Sweeney Todd - Johanna - The duet version with Sweeney and Anthony is the best bet. Slower and lyrical with a constant beat.
Tarzan - Trashin' The Camp - Best used for a gymnastic and/or break dance sequence if you feel you've got the stamina.
The Lion King - Shadowland or Endless Night - I'd get serious for this one, either would be great for slow contemporary choreography.
The Little Mermaid - One Step Closer - A beautiful song and I can't resist the synergy of dancing to a song about dance.
The Music Man - Shipoopi - So much fun and good to pantomime to, strong imagery in the lyrics to draw upon for movements.
The Phantom of the Opera - Masquerade - Take inspiration from the scene in the movie, such great choreography, all you need is a fan!
The Producers - Keep It Gay - Could you get anymore camp?
The Sound of Music - The Lonely Goatherd - My favorite things is a close second, but gets a lot of play, this one is a bit more energetic.
The Wiz - Slide Some Oil To Me - A fun opening number, gets you from stiff to limber, easy but imaginative blocking.
Wicked - Dancing Through Life - Another song that never gets too fast but is terribly appropriate for a dance collage.
You do realize you were living with the King Of All Broadway for a year right?

Avenue Q - The Internet Is For Porn, Everyone's a Little Bit Racist
The Evil Dead musical - What the Fuck Was That?
The Book of Mormon - All American Prophet
The Producers - Along Came Bialy, Springtime for Hitler
Rocky Horror - The Time Warp
The Mikado - As Some Day It May Happen
Funny Girl - His Love Makes Me Beautiful
My Fair Lady - Get Me to the Church on Time
Hairspray - Miss Baltimore Crabs
That's all the funny/fun ones I can think of off the top of my head that I'm sure someone else didn't pick.

I personally feel "Man Gotta Do" is a better song, but it is a duet so not sure if it fits what you had in mind:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN3eBvZvUXk&
The most upbeat song in the entire movie is "So They Say" but out of context it doesn't really fit - it is more of a song to advance the plot than anything :/

The Finale song is really slow but emotionally driven. I'll warn you tho, the youtube clip is a huge spoiler.

Seussical the Musical- Oh the Thinks you can Think (the opener) Or Follow your Hunch
Batboy the Musical - Children, Children
Chicago - I know a Girl (SOOOOO funny!)
Sweeney Todd - Pretty Women,
Fiddler on the Roof - Matchmaker, LeHiam, If I were a rich man
Dr Horrible - So they Say
Camelot - C'est Moi, Seven Deadly Virtues (If you look at ANY of mine, look at THIS ONE)
Chorus Line - Sing! or Music in the Mirror
Oklahoma - I can't say no
and that's what I got..... for now!
