The Animation Workshop 2012 graduation films!
Premiering last friday, the bachelor films were uploaded a few days ago for the world to see.
Here's some links to view them, and my thoughts;
Space Stallions:
Judging by the cheers, the audience favourite at the premiere! Not always the best 3D, but, gods, MOAAAAR
also, it's gone viral :3
Vaesen(being/creature):
mostly classic animation. Beautiful, imo. Feels a bit more spiritual/psychedelic that makes me wish I understood it better. Again a few weird designs but they seem more deliberate.
Slug Invasion:
Hilarious, great use of story contrast.
Ride of Passage:
I'm puzzled by the design choices here and there, but I think it works really well and has one of the better stories for a short film. It's cute and consistent.
LOAD:
Another audience favourite. It's got good things and bad things, to me. Feels unfinished in more than one aspect.
Wing:
My least favourite overall. Confusing story until you watch it again, bad forms overall. Could be a stylistic choice, but...
This is the school I want to get into, btw. I took a drawing course here and now I'm hanging out to make portfolio. It's a great place, with happy students (tested to be at least 15% happier than other bachelor students in the region!) and lots of skilled people. Yay!

So in love with Space stallions, it is so 80s I just can't help loving it!
Vaesen is beautiful. Sad, mysterious, haunting, but beautiful.
Still gotta watch the rest!
This school's been really kicking itself up a notch with animation the last few years - talked to the students pimping the school at Annecy and definitely felt that 15% happier - good luck with the folio, I'm sure you'll breeze it
And no, it wont be a breeze. I've tried so I know.
