Go with whatever you feel is right and what you want. I personally like black and red myself. I was a black wolf to begin and that got bland for me so I gave Likeshine full artistic creativity on a new addition to my character. I told her I wanted red incorporated into the black fur and she delivered and I absolutely love the outcome of it <3. Try a few things out if you've got time and know how to use photoshop with a basic outline of your character and a few brushes and colors. *hugs for the heck of it with a warm tailwag*

I wish I could use the basics of Photoshop to make some mockups, but I have never gotten the hang of that program, and ironically, I'm color-blind IRL, which has not helped at all >.< But, on the other hand, maybe this is good motivation to learn it.

o.o Didn't know you were color-blind. I'm a software engineer so I'm used to dealing with RGB values on occasion with setting up interfaces, best thing I could say to do would be to attempt to experiment with keeping the values while keeping B high and R&G low, *shrugs* worth a shot but I can't say much because I'm not sure to the degree you're color-blind. If you can get used to using layers, then you should be fine

Well, I have a color chart with RGB values, so that's the only way I really know what color something is. I don't see in black and white, but where most people see distinct shades, I don't. I'm classic Red-Green colorblind, so my eyes are insensitive to Red and Green components of complex colors. Both colors looks washed out to me unless they're fully saturated. (For example, green traffic lights look white to me and light pink often looks like gray to me). It really sucks though, because I know I'm missing a lot and it makes me hard to design anything (like say...a fursona). :P

I'll mess around with Photoshop this weekend and see if I can figure it out.

Well, if you think grey is too dull, there's your answer right there. No point sticking with it if you don't like it. Though, for what it's worth, I don't think your colors are boring at all. :) Why not just jazz it up with a splash of blue? Maybe some blue hair and tail tip or something? That gets you some color without leaving your current colors completely behind.

Hmm....that sounds like a good idea. I feel as if I have a lack of distinguishing marks and/or colors and plus I wouldn't mind a splash of color. If I can ever figure out how to run photoshop, it would be worth playing around with.

That makes sense. And you don't need many marks to be effective. All I have is a tuft of hair and a neclace, but it works pretty well. ^^ I've used photoshop 5 (...which is 12 years old, now) a lot, and GIMP. It's worth learning about it :) I can give you what pointers I know if you want. :D

Sure, why not try some colors? Nothing says you have to keep it if you don't like it.

Oooh if you went with blue, I could see you going with a dark blue instead of a vivid blue :3. You'd get your color, but it would be different and not being like copying the color from others =D.

What about a mix of your previous colours (brown/fawn and grey) plus the blue? Trying to think of something a little different as there are a few blue/grey wolves in the random and you don't want some furry getting butthurt because you've 'stolen their character'.

That's not a bad idea :) I'm definitely trying NOT to look like anyone else and what you are suggesting might end up being the compromise that I need to make in order to keep my fursona unique. Not that I mind gray, but it is awfully dull :\
