I recently finished fixing up two halves of a positive mascot head to be vacuformed. The pieces I need have been pulled and ready to be shipped. I asked the company if they can hold onto my positives for a few months in case a local theme park is interested in having a replacement Easter Bunny made (their current one looks very creepy). It would save on shipping to have them hold onto it to save on shipping just in case.
I was sent an invoice, as well as a question regarding if someone was interested in a copy of it may I give my permission to let me vacuform more of them. I would be paid, but I am not sure what to charge for it. This is something I normally do not charge for.
Keep in mind if this company created something for a client from scratch it would be $100/hour.

I'm not really sure either, but that's kind of neat that someone may want copies of it. :D

Yup. Was thinking $50/per half.

That seems reasonable to me.

I don't mean to sound rude, but did you make the original "positive mascot head" that they vacuformed? I know you generally commission other artists to make foam heads for your suits, and if that's the case here you may want to consult the original artist before making multiple copies of their design. Of course, if the work is original to you then this is a moot point. :3 Good luck!

It was refurbished. It came from a mascot company that discontinued it. It has post been altered and resized from the original.

Well, if the original design was discontinued, the company (if it still exists) may not appreciate an altered/resized version of their work which is no longer supposed to be widely available, being produced for distribution again. I guess what I'm saying is, when looking into being paid for work that will be copied and resold, it is best to tread carefully and make sure your ducks are in a row before you start. The last thing you need is the original mascot company (or whatever remains of it) suing you because they didn't authorize a competitor making copies of their design, you know? If Disney sold me an old Mickey head and I made it smaller and made the ears pointy, it wouldn't be a good idea to sell that head to a company that planned to copy and distribute the design, because however modified the core design is not mine to sell.
