If LoL was more like Starcraft-like strategy, I'd give it a shot. But sadly it isnt a true RTS.

Hmm... well I wouldn't consider it as RTS game. Always had been considered it as other sort of game, not sure what to call it yet. But it's a game none the less. XD

Surprisingly enough, its catagorized as an RTS by its makers apparently. I've tried it, and it contains no strategy. All I know if, if you got a good tank, the rest falls into place in your favor. *Sighs* So hard to find good games nowdays...

It is technically an RTS, there's not much else you could call it honestly...

Though, I have to wonder, if it doesn't involve any strategy then having a tank wouldn't matter. Team comp is a part of strategy after all. And it is quite possible to play with a team full of glass-cannons, difficult but possible. Maybe in the lower ranking games there isn't as much strategy, sure, but in the higher level games its more than just run around and right-click to win.

Maybe it has more strategy in harder games, never played that far to care. Got boring so quick just whacking things and players with other people.

It may be categorized as an RTS since not many people recognize the new genre called MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) that games like Defense of the Ancients, Heroes of Newerth, and League of Legends belong to. The only thing that MOBA has in common with RTS are the mechanics of interaction (top-down view, right-click to move, etc) since it was originally a mod for Warcraft III (DOTA) in which the only controllable unit for a player was a single hero.

LoL is extremely simple at the early levels, but it gains complexity as you go up in ranks and fight with/against more experienced players and more roles need filling than just a tank. The 5 roles I know of are: Jungler, AP carry, AD carry, Solo Top, and Support. Either the Solo Top or the Jungler will go to fulfill the role as tank or they may split the burden between them and be offtanks (mixing damage with durability).

There is strategy in team composition and teamwork, but not on the individual basis which is why it doesn't gain complexity until you start fighting with those more experienced players who know what they're doing.

I have heard the term MOBA, but your right that not many people use or know that term.

Your explanation in the LoL diverse complexity, pretty much sums up how World of Warcraft plays like Raids from Icecrown Citadel and the Pvp Battlegrounds, Arathi Heights in particular. Sure things are easy in the beginning, but things get harder later. Thats pretty much how all games are. But there are games that just dont show it well enough, and I didnt see it in LoL. It just feels way to simple.

OMG get it! It's free anyway. Just play the tutorial, and then start smashing easy bots! Build the recommended items (get boots early!), and if you find a character that you like, type "[whatever character name] build" into google and that'll take you to Mobafire. That's when you start kicking ass!

Okay, cool. I might get it later tonight. Sounds like it's fun the way my friends talk about it anyway.
