holy cow man, lately? my fingers on my right hand have been in some serious pain.
it's mostly around the tips, and around the joints nearest the tips. but they swell, they look red, and they hurt a hella lot when i put pressure on them (like say, typing or drawing).
i've been taking ibuprofen cause i suspect it's arthritis. it gets worse the colder it is. i don't really think the ibu is DOING anything, though. they still hurt. :B
i guess y'know now i'm 30 with a family history of hand arthritis and i draw all day i shoulda expected this at some point, but it's still a pain to suddenly have arthritis symptoms in my dominant hand.
ah well.
as an aside, i've been kicking around the idea of opening up commissions for character study sheets kind of like this, but i'm not sure if there's A) any interest or B) what to charge. the current winning thought is that price would fluctuate based on the complexity of the character.
anyone else got an opinion?

A reference sheet with me in various poses, I would expect would be $5/pose with maybe a bit of a discount.
Bunners
However! I am sorry about the hand. I have fibromyalgia, and ibuprofen does shyt for me. I suggest trying Advil (naproxen) before stressing too much over it though. Advil works much better for rhematic diseases and diseases like Fibro, according to my specialist I used to go to. Another thing I might suggest is wearing a glove when drawing, just cut the fingers out of the thumb and forefinger. I got some from the dollar store and do this. Or get fingerless gloves. It would still help keep the majority of your hand warm (a product called thinsulate works best for thin gloves that hold the most warmth). A final option would be SumdgeGuard gloves if you are worried about regular gloves smudging your art, these are guaranteed not to do so however they only cover about half of the hand.

So, let's do the math here a bit for some examples...

This...may be "too" complicated but I dunno, the idea makes sense to me. Depends on how you feel about it. And you can of course raise or lower the prices as you see fit - one thing you may want to consider is that traditional work takes more materials, so factor that into your price that you charge (I don't know what they typically cost since I mostly use digital, so I just did a ballpark price)
But if you want to go with a standard of 5 poses, as you did in that reference, charge an absolute minimum of $25 (what I used to make the price model above) because for what I see of your skill and the work i know goes into traditional, that is what it would be worth.
If you do consider offering these, another thing I would like to suggest is offer people the option to order an inked-only (no color) version for half price. That widens your base of people able to afford it. The only thing you need to do is clearly state whether they may color it or get it colored. I know some artists do not like other artist's coloring in their lines, even when proper credit for the lines is given.
Uhhh, I think that about sums up my thoughts. Hit me up if any of this doesn't make sense (entirely possible since I just got home from 3rd shift).
i never even considered upping the price for wings and things...but charging more for complex patterns or clothing sounds like a good idea. and the idea of charging per pose might be nice, but i should def. put a maximum on that...so i'm not trying to cram 400 poses into a single page!
and i could probably deal with doing ink-only for this. most of my stuff i feel like ink-only either makes it look horrible (like comics) or is just a waste. but for a page o' poses, i think i could deal!
also i used to have fingerless gloves, i dunno where they went. but i think we may have some advil, so i'll try that. major thanks again :o
Well, I wasn't sure, when some people say complex they mean wings. I have met people who refuse to draw Mao's wings because they are "too hard"
And I am glad I was able to help. I would say a safe max would be maybe 8-10. But the average will probably end up around $5.
Also, I am not sure of your monetary situation, but if you are doing this to raise money for bills/groceries,
feather wings can be kind of a pain in the behindus, but not that hard.
1- solar panels
2- solar water heater
i'll also have to argue with whoever installs them, because there's trees on three sides that i refuse to cut down. which will mean we won't get the optimum benefits of solar panels but jeez, y'know, at least it'll be SOMEWHAT offset.
which could be any day now, judging by the type/number of birds that're coming back.
then i did a lot of punchin'.
