Art Contest! - Journeys of Nimin
General
Whew, now that the database change is done, I can post this without worrying about nobody seeing it XD
As explained in the previous journal, I had some prizes and was looking to do a contest ^^ Considered doing the suggestion of having a Nimin Cover Page contest, but that wouldn't look too good until I get the rest of the graphics updated in a later release. So, instead I figured this would be nice ^^
The Contest
Draw your journey through Nimin =3 It can be a comic from start to end, a single-page depiction of change over a small event, or even a single scene of your character focusing on how they've changed ^^
I figure people enjoy depicting their journeys anyways and this would simply be incentive to do more =3 Even if you don't win, all submissions will be automatically inducted to the Nimin Fanart page, for all to see and relate and enjoy ^^
The Prizes
As mentioned in the previous journal, I have extra copies of a couple games. Upon asking SumigakiFox for permission to allow Silandrias in submissions, he also submitted a couple more games to the contest =D At the moment, there are 3 places worth of prizes. In order of winning, each winner gets to choose from the following list of Steam games, looping back around (so 1st will get 1 game of choice first + 1 game leftover after others choose).
Update: Thanks again to Sumigaki for another prize, there is now a 4th place if at least 10 people submit to the contest, and I will add another game as well.
-Space Marine
-Fear 3
-Plants vs Zombies
-Space Pirates and Zombies
-One Steam game of your choice (up to $60) - If there is at least 10 people participating.
-Zombie Driver - If there is at least 10 people participating.
The game titles also link to their Steam pages, if you want to know what they are ^^ Also, if desired, for the "expensive games" I can probably trade them for other games of lesser value for you (such as Fear 3 for Sonic Generations), within reason.
I may potentially increase the number of places based on how well the contest goes and if the prize pool expands.
Judging
Judging will be based upon how well you illustrate your journey or section of your journey. Quality of the actual artwork is a factor, but a larger factor is how well you represent what you're trying to show. Trying to show a single transformation scene? Make sure the transformation is clearly obvious and your character's reaction suits them. Trying to show an extended journey through multiple frames? Make sure it can be easily followed and related to such events within the game itself.
All in-game characters are allowed to be included (Silandrias' owner gave permission) and including one or more will be beneficial, but not dramatically-so over those who don't include them.
Quantity will be balanced vs Quality. If you do a 5-page comic that's really sketchy and hard to follow, it might lose to the single-page scene that is done really well. If you do a 5-page comic that's quite nice, it would have a better chance over the single page scenes.
If you want to submit something you've already done - Out of fairness, I will allow artists who have already made such fanart be able to submit said art into the contest. However, they won't be regarded as highly as new submissions, since half the point of the contest is to encourage new works XD
When it comes down to deciding who wins, I will likely be recruiting a few friends to help judge the submissions, with Fenoxo being a prime option (since he probably won't be submitting anything himself XD).
Other Rules
-All submissions must be entered by midnight of Feb 29th, est. That gives everybody 2 weeks to work with, and should prevent people from doing gigantic comics that leave everybody else in the dust (though such comics would be cool eventually, I won't deny it XD).
-Submitted artwork must be your own.
-You can include text with the image, though it won't affect judging much (unless the text covers the good stuff, in which case it would be a detriment :P).
-Remember: Have fun ^^ Though this is a contest, it's also to spread the enjoyment you've had with Nimin =3
-Oh, I also reserve the right to change the due date or judging rules or whatnot, primarily for sensible cases such as me forgetting something or because 2 weeks is too short for like half the participants or whatnot.

Thats all there are?
Its Nimin flash afterall
Though, there's still time, so maybe it'll pick up later ^^
I kinda always start out as human just to end up as some cow-mix wit 7 gonads and those being watermelonsized X3.
I am kinda curious what happend to the bloat berries. I miss them. With them having Bouldersized balls was sooo much easier. Well maybe it was broken too. Well I am having fun looking through the cities now too. The oasis is kinda lacking stuff as well as , I think Toiadre/Lupan-city. I am kinda asking myself what would anyone want inside a human-city besides going cow there? XD
Yeah...I certainly should do someting here. Hope I don't fail like I always d in life.
Popularity gains from regular updates have a cumulative effect, assuming you have a small, minimum amount of material to contribute. Stop updating regularly, and your popularity drops significantly. The drop has a cumulative effect, as well, if you haven't noticed. For easy ideas for content updates, I would suggest looking through the user posts on the bottom of the Nimin submission's page and Ctrl+F for specific things that the users say, like "typo" or something like that. If you've already gone and fixed up minor errors, you can just go in and start changing variables for the sake of balancing, like messing with exp drops, level up bonuses, etc.
Contests generally work by stirring up the current fanbase, and won't do a whole lot to bring in new users or old users that have already moved on. Because of lack of updates, many users, unfortunately, have given you up for dead, Xadera, so this contest probably won't work all that well unless you convince Fenoxo to advertise it on his blog. That massive burst of updates in the week following v.92 of Nimin should have been stretched out to about 1 new version a week. Right now, users should have been enjoying Nimin v.92y or so, and eagerly awaiting the new release of Nimin v.92z, with the contest having been planned for the as yet unrevealed version .92aa. Even if it was a missed opportunity to grow the fanbase, alot of us still consider Nimin to be one of the best works of this genre. Despite not having had an update for so long, I think that Nimin is stiill a worthy rival to Corruption of Champions.
For this particular contest, I think that prizes should be scaled down to the amount of response that's garnered. If there are few submissions, then the prizes should be decreased accordingly. Save the rest of the prizes for next time. Even if this message sounds like a downer, don't give up! There's always a next time, and we all learn from our mistakes.
Well, I suppose that begins my journey to find Xadera's Development Process. There will be many perils and mystic lands to discover, and I'll have to go through every single submission, journal, and whatever I can scrounge up through a search online in order to find what I seek. If my previous text-based adventures have been any indication, this should be as entertaining and uplifting as my Odyssey To The Penalties of the American Patient Care and Affordability Act or my sojourn into the dreaded AT&T Complete Compendium of Privacy Policies and Fee Scheduling Policies.
Maybe one of the busty summoned girls will join me again in rereading your journal entries, but after passing through the Bay of Furaffinity's Past Policy Mistakes, I wonder if I should turn around and retrace my steps to try and find anything I might have missed?
If I don't return from this adventure, tell Nannette that she's not that ugly. I know that she really is that ugly, and she's just a digitized avatar, but it'll at least make her feel better about herself.
Sorry if I sound a little rude, but if you REALLY want me to go ahead and read your recent life's history, I'd probably be crazy and bored enough to do it :). And afterward, I'd probably send you a summary report of everything that you've posted in the past couple of years.
As for spreading out the "updates", if you looked at the update logs, those updates under a single submission are only bug fixes. There are no content updates during that time (except maybe one or two small things out of necessity). I am not going to spread out bug fixes as updates, that's just pointless. And as for not updating as frequently as Fenoxo or others, I have said in the FAQ and multiple times elsewhere: I update when I update. I've made it very clear over the past year that I update when I feel the game is ready, not a schedule to appease the masses. I don't care about popularity. And if people think I'm dead, then they obviously didn't check to see if I had been active at all to confirm, because I have specifically posted journals saying "I'm not dead".
I'm not saying you should go and read everything. I'm saying that if you're going to regard a specific aspect of the contest or the game, then you should at least read the things associated with said topic as opposed to shooting off suggestions while ignorant of such things. It's not hard. I mean, you suggest "scaling prizes", but why do you think I have the "if there are 10 or more submissions" clauses, right there in the journal you just read?
I suppose it's just because I'm a business major that I look at things that way. It makes sense to me and not to you, which I understand and accept. Each person to their own originality, and to each their methods, I guess.
I'm not saying you need to update more, do it at your own pace, but it should be fairly obvious that fandom participation drops significantly when the content is stagnant for a long period of time. The biggest hurdle comes from the lowered rate of visiting. See, I've played out most of the content in the game I'm interested in. As such, I rarely visit your page unless I'm looking for some info on the possibility of an update.
Like this contest? I only even heard about it right now, and 1 day is not enough time for me to whip anything up (however shitty it might be x3).
I guess the short of it is: that you shouldn't be surprised at the lack of activity if you look at all the factors, but it's also important to note that it this amount isn't really indicative of the fanbase for your work.
If I had caught on to this earlier, I would have suggested saving the contest until after the next update. Or at least editing the description of the game page to link to the journal, so the people who had the game bookmarked or something would see it.
Just to give my statements some semblance of validity:
#(total) of comments on the journals concerning any reference to the contest: 61
#(total) of comments on the journals concerning the most recent game update (dates close to update release): 84
#(total) of comments on the game itself: 1207 (110943 views) [note: probably actually around 1150 to allow for the responses you gave]
-not to mention the various "furry flash game" threads on sites like pawsRU, U-18, and such
