TERA! *shakes fist at the sky*
Ok, so as many of you know, right now I am a HUGE mmo player. In fact, that's really just about the only gaming I do any more besides random FPS matches with friends. Anyway, I've been playing RIFT since beta and love it, but recently SWTOR has pretty much stolen me away from it. Of course, I'm max level in RIFT and not in SWTOR, so that might have something to do with it.
I figured that I would get to max level on a couple of characters in SWTOR (my Jedi Sage and Sith Assassin) and then I would go back to playing RIFT again. I mean, I love sci-fi as much as the next girl (geek girl that is) but there is just something about fantasy that keeps drawing me back. I loves me my elves and swords and magic and and and ... so yeah, I figured I would end up back in RIFT, or at least in SWTOR *and* RIFT at the same time. SWTOR would fill my sci-fi desires and RIFT would be my fantasy love mate.
But then came TERA came along. Ugh ... I wanted to not like this game ... I wanted to just dismiss it as another Korean grinder (despite my love for Aion) ... but then I got into the beta ... and I played it ... and I got hooked. I'm gonna be playing through the rest of the beta period on TERA to make sure that it wasn't just "new game" shock that got me hooked and that I actually like leveling past 20 (something that Aion and AoC disappointed me on a great deal) or if it falls flat after your starting experience like so many other games do. I just wish there was some way I could play more than the every other weekend schedule that the beta is currently in. >_<
So now I'm in the midst of a dilemma. While I really like RIFT and SWTOR, if I end up really liking TERA as well in the end, I just can't afford THREE mmo subs at the same time ... to say nothing of justifying the time that would be needed to get my money's worth and not letting one sit there idle (like RIFT is doing currently). Which games do I play? *sighs* /firstworldproblems
Kisses and Cum,
Morri

I have to agree with Aion, I wanted to try it because my cousin, who never played an MMO before, loved it. I hated it, and couldn't even bear playing it for more than a week :(
Still on the lookout for GW2, at least that one won't be subscription or premium FP2 based. :) So no excuses on that one aside for the initial purchase to run 2 MMO's, IF I'd hop into Tera as well.
But this one won't be instanced and will be very much an open-world game. So that's a plus :)
Actually, it'll also be somewhat like TERA because your weapon swings aren't single-targetted, but rely on the arc of the swing to do real-time damage.
Plus no "holy trinity" either, so everyone has to mind his own health sustain instead of relying on a healer/DPS/tank setup.
Class combos, certain class skills will synergize with eachother for a empowered effect, such as a Ranger shooting a Spread shot through an Elementalist's Flame Wall to set his arrows ablaze and deal additional damage.
Not trying to make too much of a commercial about it, but there are plenty of things I'm looking forward to :) Plus.. playable plant people, they're going all-out to come up with something creative here! :)
I'm glad to hear that they aren't instancing it. That really killed the first one for me. I do actually find the game interesting, but after having such a sour taste left in my mouth from the first one, until I play a demo of it, I'm not going to commit to anything. Oh well, TERA will be out May 1 and GW2 is a while after that, so it will give me plenty of time to try out TERA. :)
The instancing was horrible. Not only that, but one return to an outpost meant everything would reset in the instanced area. I tried to go back to the game a while ago because it would earn you some items for GW2, but it's so... sluggish to play now! :( Eye of the North feels kind of nice in a way, lots of different, new heroes to take along. Having an Asura (the creepy gnomegoblin creature things) voiced by Maurice LaMarche running next to you feels kind of neat though.
Mmmmm I'd love to play TERA along with you! But alas.. :(
I dunno, it just couldn't keep me hooked. I loved the way the classes were built, but the content seemed boring to me, for the most part.
I'm kinda hoping TERA doesn't suck me in as well, there are too many games I'm looking forward to playing this year...if I keep adding more to the list, oh dear, so much computer time!
Both of the games are breaking out of the molds of MMORPGs of today, be it TERA's hack-n-slash combat that focuses on dodging and accuracy, or Guild Wars 2's massive-scale questing and consequences to success/failure.
Tho, I'm more excited about TERA, because of the stunning visuals, gameplay and all. I only hope the game doesn't have such a annoying grind to it, as it was the case with Lineage II or Aion, where the first levels were a breeze, and then, after level 20 you started to realize the game hates you. I remember reaching level 45 with my sorceress in Aion tho... then my HDD died and I never bothered redownloading the game XD
But then again, you're not just standing there and hitting buttons in a specific order, you're actually involved in the fight and trying to do as much damage while avoiding as much attacks as possible. I need to play it to judge :D
Anyway, I'm glad to see someone else as excited for TERA as I am! ^_^ *glee*
