I think Elli is very unique looking. She's one of the most interesting character designs I've seen. Maybe not species-wise (though she is cool), but her marks are. Vex is pretty damn cool, too.

Why not do some character adaption? You don't have to change species if you just -add- something you know?
Wings, tentacles, extra arms or something even! Or you can have a special traits that's very visibly obvious? Glowing is overused but...um...dunno...electricity is always on your body or something? Or you are always partially on fire or...i dunno...something! X3

Dude, glowing is my life, any character that I have as a personal character is going to glow somehow whether it be a trinket or a magic wand. It's just how I am.

Okay that sounded really stupid. But I really do like glowy characters.

I know what you mean, you go lurking around and seeing other peoples work and it's hard not to feel a little un-creative. My best recommendation is just keep doing what you're doing, don't look towards others to make yourself feel special. Also, there's a whole animal kingdom that is open to you for ideas, go for it, be creative, mix species that normally people wouldn't even think of. Who knows, you might even make the new trend. On another note, I like your character, but who knows, it could be the fact that I love black and things that glow. Hell, I have glowsticks as a friend on facebook. Luminescence is just plain awesome. Also what can help to make your character more unique is by building a back story for her, give her a reason to why she glows and how her mechanics work.
