i'll be honest i didn't give many fucks about expanding my art more just distancing myself from the title furry because i was meeting loads of new people and i was scared they'd think i was an animal molester like all furries are obv.
but i feel like i've grown up a lot and learned more and generally understand everything a little better now, i don't have to be 'socially acceptable' in fact that was never a thing that actually existed, it just sorta turned into this blanket term, for a bunch of snobs who think everyone with different interests to them were dirt, to use and it took off look at it go erupting upwards through the hemisphere damn you go blanket term follow your dreams
anyway there are some shitty aspects to this fandom yeah and a lot of them will make people get the wrong impression of you but all fandoms do in fact if you say fandom anything people will think you're a nerd so what am i doing
i've been completely going all out on this fandom quitting bullshit i haven't even let myself draw furries at all but i just kinda went fuck it last night and god fucking damn do i love drawing animal people you have no idea how cool i find the whole idea
so yeah i may be coming back and i feel like i've changed a lot both for the better and for worse
obviously worse in my typing
i'm leaning off the side of a couch and arms aren't supposed to work this way ok leave me alone

THIS FANDOM IS HORRIBLE! But it's wonderful too. I've found a lot of great people here that AREN'T creeps and I think it's probably made me a more tolerant person too although there are things that piss me off. I'm happy you're back!
Also you can ALWAYS expand what you draw while still drawing what you like! Animals, animal people, people people, objects...why not draw everything?
and yeah, some people will give you a weird look. I tell most people I like drawing cartoon animals and they don't give me any shit. If I said "wearing an animal suit" they'd go 'OH YOU MEAN FURRY" but honestly they don't seem to think of it as an artistic thing right off the bat.

yes, especially since I'm pretty sure this fandom has the BEST PEOPLE in it. seriously it's like the most accepting and loving group of internet nerds ever ahaha
although I must say that leaving has also expanded what I can draw a LOT quicker than I would've if I hadn't, but I wouldn't do it again fdkjgfdjkg

We're a lot better than other groups, yeah. And really diverse. There's no certain style, even specific subject matter, uniting us, no favorite show or anything. (mlp argument? maybe. but you know.) So there's less bullshit over that and less of an exclusive attitude cause there's a niche for everyone in a place that's just about drawing fantasy animals and animal people and monsters and stuff.
That's good too--drawing a lotta stuff is great and if that helped you do it, something good did come out of it. Your other drawings will now have more options and depth. :)
Besides, art isn't about being "socially acceptable". Art is about pushing boundaries! It's about changing the way society looks at the world! It's about freedom of expression and freedom of thought! Seriously, what world-changing artist wasn't controversial in his/her time?

I tend to be quiet about my fandom activities, but really, I don't think most people really want to hear very much about my hobbies, anyway. Fan stuff of any type, whether it's sci-fi, furry, anime, or anything else, is often perceived as a bit too unusual by most people - mostly because of the mocking, "look at the freaks" segments that air on the news or late-night TV. But if you're a sports buff who paints your body and leaps around half-drunk in the stands of a stadium, somehow that's normal to a lot of people. :)
Do as you feel comfortable, and be discreet. But don't change who you are!
