Update the Second

Still in NY. t's been two days since I twisted my knee and the pain's about the same. I can't bend my leg too far or straighten it out completely so getting up to use the bathroom is... an adventure.
I've been keeping it compressed via Ace bandages but elevation's been hard to keep steady. Put it on ice the first day and took a hot bath that night. Also been taking Ibuprofen once a day to keep the pain at bay.
I don't know what's going to happen when I get home, but I'm worried. Dad's understandably concerned that our last night (which we're pulling out of) won't be refunded by the hotel.
We leave Garden City at 3AM tomorrow morning with the hopes of getting to Savannah Georgia by 5PM where we'll stay the night.
Sorry I haven't been able to do the sketches I promised. It's incredibly difficult to stay comfortable for too long and try to draw. I'll be working on them the second I get back to my art computer.
Sooo yeah. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all the well-wishes. It means more to me than words can express.

The first time I hurt my knee I went to a redicare in the states the next day, understandably the doc couldnt tell much as it was so swollen, but said if ti wasn't better within a month I would need a MRI and surgery. As I could afford neither, I just dealt with it. I used a smaller size brace than what I measure for (to help keep the swelling down, which made it more stable as well as the stabilizers) Eventually with time my muscles had taken up most of the slack and it was solid except as I mentioned, no sitting "indian" style on the floor.
Second time was here in sweden, thought eh, no big deal, and the pain got worse and worse until I realized it had locked into a position I couldnt "pop" it out of. Thats when I had the xray, and scared a newbie orthapedic doc. (he popped it while doing the normal tests to see how loose it was..... god it was loud, god that felt good, but he thought he hurt me due to his expression and vacating the room in 5 seconds flat to concur with the his "boss" or the doc with experience)
I know if I really do end up needing surgery it won't be a problem to get done here, but I would rather fix it muscularly if possible. (By making the muscles around the joint stronger to take up the slack)
I wasn't able to stretch my knee out fully the first time either, but I laid on my back and let it lay against a wall, slowely letting it stretch as well as keeping the swelling down. a swollen knee is not fun to walk on :P and I remember toe walking with that leg for awhile.
now her mileage may vary, I pushed my knee more than many of my friends liked. (why the fuck are you standing and walking. yeeek!) But I also did it carefully and was aware of the pain, vs strange as hell wobbly water on the knee sensation.
A injured knee that won't open fully (which at the time of her journal writing, as well as the sounds from the last journal) could be the torn ligaments getting caught in the joint, or a torn meniscus doing the same. I will note that when I hurt my knee, I was in shock for about a couple hours, but we were camping so my friends went and got the pickup truck as well, they couldn't help me all the way back to the campsite, and I laid/sat in the back of it the rest of the day... but when the adrenalin wore off? FFFFFFFUck that was the worst pain I had ever felt. I think given the ice we used and a ace bandage helped keep the swellling down but still. gaaah. Unfortunately only time will tell for her. I do hope it feels better by now. at least a bit. And docs probably will give her the same song and dance, though a xray would be nice to see the meniscus. the tendons won't show up, or I would know which exactly are stretched/torn/gone from my knee. I SHOULD have gone to this clinic before I lost my job at BK, but I wasn't aware.. ah the medical care of the states. It sucks to fall through the cracks. I was literally told to get pregnant if I wanted medical -.-
