What is the point

the following is a paid advertisement.
Of posting a 2000x2000px+ image?
Yes, I get that your details are lovely and all, but no one can actually see the full image and the zoomed out version is much too small to appreciate. Most people's screen resolutions won't go higher than 1920x1080 and a good majority of people don't even use a resolution that large. It's not like we're all browsing FA on billboard sized computer screens with billboard sized resolutions.
Seems more like a ego rub that does your artistic promotion a lot more harm than good- no one can see the image properly while zoomed out and when full viewing, they're faced with a crotch the size of their computer monitor and have to pan around.
Just. WHY?

FA+

The other 5% is just because I wanted to mess with FA's submission bug thing, to see what it was like.
That's why.
I really have no idea what these people are thinking. Do they think people are printing these out as posters?
Either way, I neither comment on, nor Fav, images uploaded like that, so it's their own loss.
In all honesty, I save about .05% of the art I look at, unless it's something that was drawn for me.
I really wish I had multiple size options on this site at upload.. or be able to upload multiple size's at the same time, that way I could upload a large one for them to save, and then some various size's in-between. Although I guess I could always upload a large quality version somewhere... then size down the other stuff to make it more viewable.
XD
If art is really good, doesn't matter if I'll have to scroll around.
Thing is, is that not every image is meant to be viewed up close unless there are a lot of fine details. If it's just an image of a cartoon dog, then having it any larger than the average screen resolution is a pointless endeavor because you're simply not showing the viewer anything of consequence. This goes for a lot of 'fine art' that's out there as well; many, many images are designed to be looked at from a distance, especially in concept art and digital painting. When viewed up close, you see a mess or lines and stroke.
If art is really good, it should be featured in a method that best displays it. Forcing someone to scroll around is highly detrimental to this.
Resizing image on server-side is very CPU consuming. I guess that's the only reason why FA has only 2 sizes for images (native-uploaded and smaller size).
Google, FB, Tumblr, and other image posting sites have practically infinite computing power compared to FA.
Anyway, you can just right-click and open the image in another tab.
Which then defeats the purpose.
