Selective Indulgence
It must be emphasized that:
We are not an official Church of Satan group. We are not here on behalf of the Church of Satan. We are not a "Satanic Community."
We are a group on FurAffinity that are made up of individuals who follow the Church of Satan and the works of Anton LaVey.
High Priest Peter Gilmore discusses indulgence in his book The Satanic Scriptures, an expansion upon Anton LaVey’s The Satanic Bible. Gilmore’s idea of what is categorized as indulgence may seem different than LaVey’s on the surface – he advocates selective indulgence, instead of indulging whenever the fancy strikes – but in actuality, it cuts to the very heart of Satanic philosophy.
Those of you who know me would know that I’ve been on a Twinkie binge as of late, keeping dashes on my page for each cake consumed like notches in a rifle butt for each kill. You would also know that I stopped the count at 40, and have been eating healthy since. I still love Twinkies, but consuming them in such volume was damaging my body. I put on a noticeable amount of weight, and don’t get me started on my digestion...
But now that I’ve “quit” my Twinkie habit, I’ve never adored Twinkies more. Consuming them sparingly has increased their value: they are treats, instead of another serving of the same. In addition, I’m healthy as a horse, especially now that I’ve refrained from drinking soda. This doesn’t mean that I feel guilt for my indulgences – I don’t think anybody should – but I have learned to choose when to indulge, and I’m better for it.
The whole point of Satanism is to enjoy your life to the fullest. But that doesn’t mean you become a slave to your vices. You are their master! By mastering your vices, you gain a life of richer quality: both from good health and the intensification of the pleasure your vices give you.
Sin responsibly. Hail Satan!

In order to sin responsibly you have to do things in at least some moderation, "too much of a good thing" comes to mind as well. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
But I agree full with this journal. Indulge yourself, don't drown yourself.
AHA, it'd be an awesome slogan. If only.
So, I always wait until the right moment to take a little something from life. Weather it be a candy bar, or a rubix cube. Or simply hanging my head out of a fast moving car to catch the breeze, I never take the small things for granted.
thanks for posting one of the more important things!
HAIL SATAN!
*ahem* please excuse that comment. I do have a few christian friends... I just felt like being an ass.
(and duuuude! toatally gonna try and start watching all the satanic furs on here because i really dont know anyone else who's satanic!)
dude, i rip on those bible thumpers the MOST YO! its like they think they FUCK the man upstairs or somethin'. oh what arrogant blind people they are.
DUDE. YOU HAVE MADE MY NIGHT. (that lady was toatally creepy)
I used to be a christian.
Then i hit 17... and grew up.
My eyes opened to the saddening lies and deceit the Christians spread, not to mention all the other things they do as well.
A side note, i do indulge myself by eating a bit of ice cream, its a delightful treat after dealing with a day-full of lemmings, (also known as zombies{Also known as customers[Also known as humans]}) It is a wonderful way to relax, as well as a guiness... i used to eat ice cream all the time, then i saw how foolish what that course of action was.
Anyways, i am rambling, i like this journal.
And i don't think worship is exactly the correct term here, to be technical, we worship ourselves, science is our dogma, our code, the rules. ironically, those rules transcend from us, to the universe, not many other religions can declare that, i mean if one religion declared if you prayed over bread, it would multiply, and it acted normally, they would say said god is displeased. We would however be able to explain what the bread is made of, how it'll effect their body, how its not floating away because of gravity, and why it isn't multiplying.
That's why I'll deny sweets here and there and instead of eating a bowl of cereal if I have the munchies while watching Doctor Who at night I'll eat a bowl of salad with cheese and grapes instead. It's also because I'm dropping the pounds with working out and improving my diet, but still. Indulgence, not abstinence and not compulsion. Balance, people, balance.
...Oh, and as for twinkies, I bought my boyfriend 18 twinkies - a whole box of 10, and another 8 fuckin twinkies, because he lives in the UK and can't buy them himself.
secondly, I might be a little lax in my punctuation. typing from a phone, sans keyboard.
anyway! you stated that you believe no one should feel guilty for indulging. While I agree with that sentiment if no one other than consenting participants are involved (in which case it's hardly a sin), where I begin to see a problem is when innocent others are harmed in the process. this is true of many common indulgences, but especially mass produced foods.
for example, coca-cola has actively stolen and polluted many water sources local people depend upon to live, lobbied against regulation of any kind often to the major detriment of comsumers, and refuse to accept a mere $.5-.10 loss per item sold to cut waste (cont. sorry...phone text limit)
should supporting these actions not spur some sort of guilt? not societally pressured, but simply a human reaction to something unquestionably harmful and, even if labelling something this in a discussion of morality is taboo, bad?
I submit the idea that guilt qua guilt is not evil. it can be useful, like many negative emotions, and warn us of a situation we may want to avoid. fear helps us avoid danger, and sadness after a death helps us come to terms with the change in our lives and cope.
is guilt not the same? it is a warning system that something is wrong. it is up to us to then determine whether or not the guilt is appropriate and react reasonably.
Indirect harm is a silly concept. If you pay for the end result, you are giving money and your tacit permission, you are paying them to hurt others. You are thus not responsible, but you are contributing to and furthering the problem. You are culpable.
You are in essence saying you're okay with slavery as long as you don't have to see it because you like the results. I honestly find that attitude abhorrent. not looking to fight, there, but I figured honesty to be the best policy.
Anyway thanks for the reply.
