There more years then I can get my flying DeLorean. I'd have one already but my Flux Capacitor is almost as old as I am and it's always on the fritz.

If you notice the communicators from Star Trek the Original Series (60s) are much like cell phones. Though the "devices" we have today are much smaller and way more advanced. Yeah, alot of the tech of today looks strangely like the gagets from the older Sci-fi films

They actually did a documentary thing on the guy that invented and helped to create the cellphone. Basically he took a look at his phone after watching Star Trek and was all "We can totally do that." So thanks to Sci-fi movies/shows some great things have been sought, thought, and later on bought.
