Art question

General
I have a question for the people who watch me that also draw. I have been moving back into traditional line art then coloring it digitally. The problem that I keep having is that when it scans over my lines look grayish instead of black. Any and all pointers/advice will be very helpful.

My Easter Aftermath image was traditionally drawn and scanned. I had the same problem, gray lines, but in the final product I just got rid of that layer and no one is the wiser =3. Does it inhibit your ability to line or something?

OP
I am currently useing MS paint and GIMP an I don't really know how to use GIMP yet. So if there is a way to make a second layer on it I am at a lose.

I'm honestly not familiar enough with GIMP to advise much there. Have you ever tried SAI? I could give you a ton of tips there =3.

Nothing in real life is 100% black, so nothing will scan fully black -- unless you change the settings to be a LITTLE bit unrealistic, or mess with it afterwards. Some people darken their scanned line art until it's all the way black. Some people make a new layer and ink over it digitally, and the end product doesn't have any of their original traditional line art in it anymore. Take your pick, mix and match, etc., it's up to you. :)

Adjust the brightness and contrast. If you're going through the windows scanner wizard it's fairly easy to adjust all that stuff.
